It's been reported that the vials have been found.
My guess is that they were behind the copier at Los Alamos in amongst the classified hard drives.
Sunny and 56 here, but windy. I saw a 4-foot tumbleweed merge on to 25 from Canedelaria.

I wonder if they got search warrants for all the lab emplyees' homes? A friend of mine was going home from work last night in Lubbock at around 7:30 p.m. She was going down a main, but 2-lane street on the edge of town (set for expansion to 4 lanes soon--98th for those of you from Lubbock). There is a pretty downrun neighborhood toward the east-end of that street (lots of foreigners, low-income residents and graduate students), with houses that face east or west. She pulled over because she thought a policeman was having car trouble pulled over to the side. His patrol car had both the hood and trunk open, and he was pulled over by a house. He seemed to be getting some equipment out, and he was very rude to her when she offered her assistance--basically told her to buzz off--I wonder if he was searching a home?

If you want to be worried read "Living Terrors" by Michael T Osterholm Ph.D, M.P.H and John Scwartz.
It is a very well written and researched book by someone who appears to be very much in the "know" about the lack of preparedness currently in the US, and by reading one would assumes elsewhere in the world .
The other is a link of interest of which one point on purchasing gas masks I found interesting. The cut and thrust of this section is don't bother, the odds are that whatever type you buy it will be the wrong type when you need it.

One does not have to break into a lab to steal Bubonic plague. Just go to the Sierra mountains in the summer. Shoot some ground squirrels and run some cultures on their blood. Eventually, you will culture out a virulent Bubonic plague culture.

On Fox News it was reported that this was not actually bubonic plague at this point, but a bacteria gel growing on slants.

We must be informed, not scared. And if someone has access by faith to what is written in Psalms 91, then that person can be anywhere they need to go. Staying home is not what I meant, living under the shadow of the Almighty is for those who will do that: live, continue to do what they are to be about and without the fear.

I heard him say that, too. With all the people he mentioned who were involved, they probably weren't looking through records.
On Fox News flash a few minutes ago, it was said that Thomas C. Butler had destroyed the missing bacteria cultures, which is a felony.
Will post more when it is repeated later.

A university professor was arrested Wednesday for allegedly telling authorities that 30 vials of plague were missing when he knew they had been destroyed, the U.S. attorney's office said.
The mysterious episode at Texas Tech University triggered a terrorism-alert plan and showed how jittery Americans are over the threat of a biological attack.
Dr. Thomas C. Butler, chief of the infectious diseases division of the department of internal medicine, was arrested late Wednesday on a complaint of making a false statement to a federal agent.
