Latin Mass is now said rarely in churches - it was abolished in the 1960s amid reform to bring the church service closer to the people by ordering clergy to say Mass in the vernacular.

That's a false statement. The Mass in Latin was not abolished and is still celebrated throughout the United States as well as the rest of the world.

our spies say the New York Times is leading the Gibson investigation.

The Times sure covers important issues lately.....The Masters and Mel Gibson. It's a reflection on their only readers, rabid hateful liberals.

Latin is a great 'unifying language.' No matter where you go, you can join in the mass. I do better at Latin masses, for example, than Spanish.

Although our mass is in English, the musical director has replaced the English 'Lamb of God' refrain with the Latin 'Agnus Dei'.

Kewl.

Pretty, too. Latin lends well to refrains, rhymes and such.

As an Rn, I took some time to consider the physical and systemic effects of what scourging and crucifixion does to the human body. The Romans were absolutely diabolical....

Imagine being on a cross and trying to decide which would be the lesser of two evils....to pull your-self and your head back...there-fore placing much of your weight on your two nailed feet(leg muscles cramping at the agony as your weight was concentrated at the nails them-selves) as you try to breathe or to lessen the pain by allowing your-self to slump a bit...only to discover that you were choaking and asphyxiating as gravity pull yours head and chest down, neck hyperflexing to pinch off your trachea... Then the cardio-vascular effects...the heart working to keep your BP up....because of stress and shock, the BP falls and blood and fluid collects in the lungs and torso...the breathing gets harder, your mouth dries, you thirst as your vascular volume falls but you are also drowning in your lungs as well as the heart's left ventricle begins to fail as it cannot clear the pulmonary veins. The vinegar that Jesus was offered might have had a temporary soothing effect, as it would have acted as a mild diuretic(diamox is a vinegar related diuretic) and cleared his lungs, he refused it as scripture stated.(It might have also led to further embarrassment of Christ being incontinent of urine, if he wasn't already, if he was I'm glad Scripture didn't record it)

I work in an ICU and have seen many cases of heart failure, shock, and trauma. The agony that Jesus went thru as he was crucified was unbearable and I'm almost glad he died before the Romans would have broken his legs to hasten death, as was the practise of the Romans if you wanted the prisoners to die "quick enough".(breaking the legs would cause further pain, and hemorrhaging, plus a high probability of fat emboli to the lungs, heart and brain) The fact that much "water and blood" rushed out of Christ when his side was pierced was evidence of the heart failure and the resulting third spacing of his bodily fluids.

Now think about the fact that it was GOD that was experiencing this kind of death, in only the way that the God-head could experience it....No wonder the Earth shook and the temple veil was wrent in twain, the sky growing dark, even in mid-day....some-where a star went nova, I'll wager!

I read somewhere that Gibson has a chapel on his L.A. property and practices the Catholic mass every day.

In Latin too. He's a very old-school Catholic indeed. And his only daughter is planning on becoming a nun. Mel's a rare bird in Hollyweird.

I thought the exact same thing when I heard him say this. There is no doubt in my mind that he was referring to Satan.

The guy playing Jesus, James Caviezel, was the lead actor in The Count of Monte Cristo. He's pretty good.

Considering how many movies he has made, (and therefore previous opportunities the media has had), it seems very obvious why they are only NOW attacking him for making THIS movie.

I knew it immediately too. Very eerie. I'm convinced he was right.

Missed O'Reilly last night. . .but of course, this was prominent in the news last night and today on Fox. . .when they talked about his comments this morning; newsbytes and on Fox& Friends as well; they did not mention the publication or give name to any journalists. . .

. . .have been dying to get on here all day to find out the 'who' and 'what' of this.

Really curious inasmuch as I assumed, of course, Liberal media - which it does appear to be - but even on FoxNews the conversation seem to focus on the possibilties of 'right-wingers' not happy 'perhaps' with Mel's portrayal.

What IS going on; this almost seems 'covert' in itself and surprising for Fox. . .

. . .of course if they would just stop being coy and tell the whole story. . .; but that is not the case; so far.

Quite graphic of Christ carrying the cross.

As well it should be. See this site for a detailed medical discussion of crucifixion, scourging, and all the other bloody details.

Jesus' death was the greatest act of love in the history of mankind. He could have easily come down off that cross and killed everyone involved. Rather he took our sins on his body and allowed himself to die as God's only begotten son to walk on earth. His love for us is that great.

The interview was inspiring and this will be the biggest blockbuster in the history of film. Here's to multiple viewings of God's love for his children.

Prayers for Mel and his family

I watched his exchange with O'Reilly with keen interest last night.

It never occured to me that the way he meant "sent" meant as in "from Satan".

But, now upon reflection....it did give that impression possibly.

He sure makes some inspirational films. I wonder who his studio is on this one.....distribution should be interesting.

I run across a lot of nominal "Christians" who don't think Satan exists anymore

The question for me is; In what form is Satan? Some think he's an entity. Others think he's just a term for evil. I still have an open mind in the subject, knowing it is never going to be answered in this life.
