I agree with you. We can use the man power and saved expenses to beef up our reactionary forces even more. Make them so freaking scary that the world's despots will quiver. Coffee Airhead will be one of the with the worse case of the shakes.

Wouldn`t it be fun to watch the President of South Korea as he hears GWB say, " You are right, we are leaving tomorrow. Bye"

We can wish, can't we?

I've been wondering about that anyway; watching all those demonstrations over there against America, do they not care that we're the only thing between them and darkness?

South Korea is in the Military Arms business; in 1982 there were over 100 "Third Country Arms" sales deals between South Korean Industry/Military/Government and the US (Joint US Military Assistance Group - Korea and the SecDef/State Department). This is all very high level stuff. South Korea produces cannons, refurbs tanks, makes M-16s, buys/builds helicopter kits, uniforms, mess kits, boots, etc. all of which is under license from US Corporations under the guidance of our government, facilitated by Joint Military planning. I worked in this "business" for a few years and can only tell that if we want Iran to have Artillery Shells to shoot, or Iraq to have Ambulances to haul wounded that it happenes under contract and this is the "Third Country Sales" leg of the joint venture.

We should leave this year. Let them deal with consequences. No more American blood for people who hate us. Some of these countries need a dose of reality of what evil really exists.

Those South Korean "friends" need to find there voice or risk being defined by those who are protesting American presence.

I'm frankly tired of it.

That was one of my first thoughts this morning--look how wonderful Coffee Airhead is handling this crisis. All of those lefties who say, "We can't go it alone---we have to go through the UN!".

Really. And who, when the Airhead screws up his courage to make a pronouncement that requires military might, does he turn to to enforce the UN mandates? Why, the Umited states.

I say, cut out the middleman. Especially a middleman who for four years ignored Iraq's blatant violations of the sanctions and weapons agreements-perhaps the UN brokered oil for food fees were just too much for Airhead to resist--
until GWB put his feet to the fire and said no more.Airhead directly contributed to an atmosphere of terror against me and my family--I have no use for him.

Speaking of expenses saved---since 1950 do you think it would be fair to say that we, the American taxpayer, have spent a trillion dollars, as well as almost 60,000 lives, to defend the most ungrateful people on earth? What could that money have done here?

Your comment reveals the long-term outcome of a US pullout of S. Korea. China will not allow either Korea to live free and our leaving would simply cause China to rename the entire penninsula. Within days it would be called the "Chinese Penninsula" and they would own it lock, stock, and nuke. And my guess is that both Japan and Russia would have very little to say about it.

And what makes you think that if it came to war the north would win?
If you look at the ROK army you will see a very well equipped and train army. Pllus they are free men and free men make better killers than slaves do.

"The entire country shut down at the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Out of honor for our dead.

The local Korean women's auxiluary made silk poppy flowers for all of the American troops on base. Our base commander gave us an order allowing for us to wear them."

Wow..I didn't know this. Thanks for sharing this info.

China is behind all of this and needs to face economic pain...

Fat chance of that...All of our political leaders (both parties) love China...China supports the political campaigns directly, or indirectly...And the rest of us love Wal-Mart...

I have a great idea...Let's just agree to purchase all of China's and N. Korea's nuclear weapons...We get all of their weapons and they get all of the rest of our money...At least we would get something for the money...Then we can strike up an agreement for our countries to disarm all nuclear weapons...

"Vietnam-ization" took about eight years (I know we were working on it in '68).
Since that shift in responsibility worked so well, and gave us a model, I'd expect we could be out of S. Korea by, oh, say, July.
They'll go down the chute in any event.

I find it ironic that we defend the border of a people who do not want us there (yes, I will admit some do want us there, but the majority do not), yet we leave our OWN border completely and totally undefended.

'No US troops in S. Korea in a decade'

He's right. It won't be necessary to have US troops after NK's communist regime is leveled and we hammer China.
