Methinks that South Korea would shit their britches if they were actually confronted with a viable united Korea. They do not want the responsibility of rebuilding and financing NK as the Germans had to do with East Germany.

LMAO....more like white water rapids without a made in America paddle :o)

First ,Is our economy so dependant on Chinese imports now that we can not use the threat of cutting off trade to force the Chinese to take care of the problems brewing in their own back yard?
Second ,Why should we defend a country that does not want us there?
Third,Is it a slap in the face of our Vets who spilled blood in Korea to just up and leave?
More, Is China today the same kind of China that it was in the period during the Korean War is it not now moving toward more of a free market society where communism should eventually fail?
These are just to add to the discussion, I actually went to China and adopted a child and found a surprising amount of hard working entrepenerial spirit among the people of China (on a individual basis anyway)
truly they are a force to reckon with.
We are truly weakening our own influence in the world by becoming too dependent on this country for our economys well being.
Is it too late?
What if we made a deal with China that if they take the Korea's we will stand down as long as they leave Japan Taiwan etc. alone.
I admit this is a bit simplistic but I do think that it is obvious that the guy In N.K is a nut and has to be dealt with and in my opinion it has to be real soon!

President-elect Roh Moo Hyun has suggested that the tens of thousands of US troops in the country since the 1950-53 war could be gone within as little as a decade, giving Seoul responsibility for its own defence. Could very well happen.... IF by that time there is no North Korea and Seoul becomes the captial of a unified Korea. Of course if that happens, the Koreans will have even worse problems than the Germans had after their reunification. E. Germany was actually not too bad off economically, for a communist country, it may have been the most prosperous one at the time in fact, but N. Korea is a total basket case economically.

What if we made a deal with China that if they take the Korea's we will stand down as long as they leave Japan Taiwan etc. alone And then what should we do when they break THAT agreement. Depending on paper treaties with Communists is not the way to bring about world peace, unless you mean the peace of the grave or the concentration camp.

Good idea! We can leave a few limited tactical nukes with the ROK and give them a distinct advantage retaliation-wise and intimidation-wise as well. I hate what could come, maybe it is time for the ROK to take care of its own peninsula, Japan should be made armed and ready as well.
I agree, We have trouble on our own shores, and along our borders and troops should be made available to defend the Homeland against foreign intruders. And while we are at it, How about Bosnia, Haiti, Kosovo and where the hell else did Clinton send troops? Isn't it time? They come home? Why is Western Civilization the international wetnurse, just to get spit upon it would seem .. Let these peoples decide their own fates, we are already tested sorely enough at home ourselves.

My point is that the two Korea's problem is solved.
although a definet salient point about Treaties with communist governments for sure.
To: Mo1
Well .. if we pull out .. they are goners Too bad for them.
To: OReilly
I am sure that they just blame it all on Bush and then go back to performing perverted acts of kindness.
To: Sparta
Pull out the troops and when the Niks invade, nuke the entire Korean peninsula. You are mentally ill.
To: Ernest_at_the_Beach
Bring those guys home and move them to the Mexican border immediately! Roger that!

I don't know about you, but I simply cold not do without all of the plastic non-sensical doo-dads that I get from China each week.

S. Korea President: 'No US troops in S. Korea in a decade'How about, "No US troops in S.Korea in two weeks"?
The thing is, now that statement can be read in two ways...

(Is China a friend or Foe ? We find out soon I think.)

I am sure that they just blame it all on Bush and then go back to performing perverted acts of kindness. I'm sure you are right, but I just looked, and surprisingly, I can't find much on the subject. Just a few vanity posts, and one obscure Slate (like) article. Not very much of an issue, as far as I can find.
