First Quarter '03 FReepathon Now Underway

The Free Republic first quarter '03 FReepathon is now underway!

Our goal for this fundraiser is the same as last quarter: $65,000. We have about $4,000 per month coming in from monthly donors so we will need to raise approx $53,000 to hit the target.

The funds raised through these fundraisers are used to pay our operating costs. Free Republic operates on an approximate $260,000 annual budget (breakdown here) and all funds are provided by donations from FReepers and Lurkers.

P.S. We are planning to make FreeRepublic.com email addresses available as a thank you to all who donate at least once per year. This new feature should be ready to go within a few days. We will post a notice and a link for donors to setup their FR email address as soon as it's ready.

Right now, I'm debating whether to convert to a monthly donation. I'm starting to lean that way.

I was pretty surprised to read that we only get $4k a month from monthlies.

Maybe it's sloth, but one of the Prime Directives around here is "There is NO FREE LUNCH!"

Meaning that JimRob writes the checks that pays the bills that keep the lights on. I would think that fans of this place would understand that, w/o a lot of nagging.

Come on, folks. Do a $20 monthly, as I do, and get this fundraising a thing of the past.

I was wondering where this "Tag Line" was located. I spent 15 minutes looking in my profile and preferences etc. and it was right under my nose!

Q: Why are the home pages ugly in this 'improved' version?

A: Because I'm working on the system. It will look better when I am finished.

I think we're all used to this improved ugly version now - (it ain't so ugly!)

John has some plans to get rid of the uglies. One new feature we're planning is allowing each donor to have a directory on an FR server where they can upload photos, images and sound files, etc, for use on their FR profile page and for posting to the forum. As a bonus, once they're on one of our own servers there is less of a security risk and we can allow embedding sound files on the profile pages again.
