"At this point, either Bush steps forward and plays the bad cop and mobilizes and invades or Iraq joins the nuclear club."President Bush has been 'playing' the 'bad cop' all along...or at least the Big, Bad Cowboy...which the Amerelefties and EUrolefties seem even MORE scared of.

"I'm thinking if it comes out publicly that members of the Security Council were violating U.N. sanctions on selling such material to Iraq..."We all wonder too...

Wouldn't they fall in the 'either you are with us or you are against us' category? Seems to me as if they would. I was wondering if it might be one of the U.N.S.C. members that has been "urging caution" and basically saying that Iraq isn't a big problem.

"What if it's North Korea?"Or Russia/China/France/Germany? Probably nothing, except for some quickly negotiated and signed treaties...in exchange for a LOT of grovelling, caving in to GW's demands, and huge strides forward in the concept of "representative government"...."exclusive" trade agreements...we get back into the driver's seat of the UN...

I can't believe not even Brit is asking the question. He does say that France & Germany have recently done about faces on their positions regarding war with Iraq. There could be a reason....

Security Council? As in permanent menbers with veto powers, like Russia/France/Germany? There are only five permanent members with veto powers. The other two are the US and Britain...I believe we can safely drop our two governments from the list of those who're fighting so hard to keep us out of Iraq.
The other countries take turns on the council. As the terms of lesser members end, another contry comes in to take their place, rotation-style. 'Course only UN member countries can do it.
To: Amelia
" There could be a reason...."Probably.
I'm getting so confused and so brain-fried by ALL the spin that's coming from one statement....that it's getting hard to think...except for one thing that's engraved in gold letters: every time this media/UN spin crap happens, it's further proof the UN does NOT want us to go to Iraq...

Security Council? As in permanent menbers with veto powers, like Russia/France/Germany? The permanent members with veto powers are USA, UK, China, Russia, and France. But see jwalsh07's post #46 listing "suspect" countries: "Russia, Germany, North Korea or China."
Three of the 4 are currently on the Security Council; the other is a member of the "Axis of Evil".

Yep...Germany's suspected military sales to Iraq got me confused...I think I ought to relax a while and go to bed. My brain cells are ready to melt down.

Wasn't Germany suspected of selling arms and/or chemical or bioweapons technology to Iraq several years ago?

I recently saw a movie or show on tv where two little kids were wearing tin foil hats. I about busted a gut laughing. Wish I could remember where I saw that......That was in SIGNS. As the scene came on the screen, I couldn't help but think of the Tinfoil Hat Brigade on FR.
