Thes Tag Lines Are Driving Me Crazy (VAnity)

The new "taglines" after people's usernames are really distracting to me. Is it the intense pressure to think up something too cute? Is it the odd little eye-pulling font that makes it less comfortable to read the article? I can't say for sure. It just doesn't seem to detract from the message board format, at least for me. Does anyone else think so? I love FR but find this new tagline thing a little annoying. Maybe Jim could give us the option to view or not view taglines as part of our user preferences.

Oh "a wet bird never flies at night" is just the punch line to a longer meandering gag by comedian Jackie Vernon (if I remember his name correctly). I don't know what your "85 google.com" means.

I like the tags. My only complaint is that "My ancestors killed Abraham Lincoln. It haunts me still. Do you know where I can get a bucket of chicken?" does not fit.

One's man's whiney is another man's legitimate comment about how much or little value some features add to this board. I can see why some folks do like the tag line, though, and maybe it will even grow on me. This morning while reading, though, it did seem very distracting. Since I come here over morning for the news I thought it was legitimate to mention. May the legitimacy police strike me down if it's deemed otherwise!

This is not a newspaper, but an interactive discussion forum where people can inject some beliefs and personality into the discussion. If you don't like that, tough cookies.

And furthermore, it would really help your case if you didn't have your own tagline, the epitome of hypocrisy.

Some folks' hostility amazes me. That said, I'm glad we can disagree on this board with no hurt feelings. It's a sign of our maturity and conservative good manners!
