Actually, Barkley is bright in his own way. And he's a Republican. Savage is just a blowhard geek with a crappy radio show.

I seriously doubt that Barkley would refuse to sign autographs for kids. My mother met him at the airport here in Houston and he gave her an autograph. No way would he sign for adults and not kids.
Anyway, I'll take Savage any day over Barkley. I love his show and his new book.

"You should read his book, too. You can read, right John-Boy?"
Nah, I can't read. I can type and formulate sentences, but I can't read a word.
Moron.

Hey, I don't like Barkley's attitude, but I'm not surprised by it--largely because he
is a jock. He is a trash talker.
On the other hand, I think Savage was even worse. The one-on-one "I'm smarter than you" stuff reeks. It's the particular kind of trash-talking which is out of bounds.
Only Rush can get away with it, because he is funny in his delivery. He makes a joke of his own megalomania. Savage would appear to be a real megalomaniac, the serious kind.
I realize that Michael Savage has a big following on FR, but I am not impressed with him. Maybe he is effective enough to serve a truly useful function, but good is the enemy of better.
Aside to Libertina: Barkley's accent is better than most American Blacks. Scoff if you will, but it's true. I stand on what I said in my earlier posts--and in this one, too.

On another show, Barkley basically said that Pres. Bush was an idiot and that the eight years with Clinton were great. I don't think you want him as president. I know I don't

Sir Charles was on Russerts show last week and he was a big disappointment.
But, I got his point to Savage that why blame things on people in the past. He was saying the same thing with Russert and he is bascially saying do something and stop blaming others.
I wouldn't trust him one bit as a member of our Gov't though !

But, I believe that Savage's point was, "Learn from history, don't forget it and repeat the mistakes of the past."
But that's just my thought.

LOL!
To: Libertina
For a basketball player , he is bright!

I missed it all. Could someone give me a clue as to exactly which expletive Sir Charles used. Well, not exactly since that would be posting profanity. Just give me a few letters and I'll fill in the blanks. Just curious. I swear I am over 18 years of age...
To: LayoutGuru2
The expletive was "dumb ass".
I just listened to a playback of some of the show, and Barkley, the hostess, and the audience all came across as a bunch of doofuses. Savage was more than justified in going into slash-and-burn mode. Those people deserved it.

I especially liked this part
BARKLEY: You know it's interesting. You said 30 percent of the criminals are illegal aliens. Is that what you said?
SAVAGE: That's when I read.
BARKLEY: It sounds like -- so 70 percent of our own people.
SAVAGE: So?
BARKLEY: That's my point. You're blaming 30 percent of the people for the problem, when 70 percent of the people, they're friends of ours, they're our family members. Why are you blaming a small 30 percent and not blaming that 70 percent?
ummm hello Barkley come in Barkley, the point is that 30 percent is a huge number that we shouldn't have to deal with and there would be more room in the prisons to hold our own criminals longer and more money etc.! like duh! Where did savage say he doesn't care about the 70%?
To: Missouri
Savage usually does nothing for me, but Barkley sounded highly uninformed for a person wishing to express his views in public.
If that was me, I'd at least know more than most before I would subject myself to a public viewing of personal views.

Thanks for this interesting transcript. It's amazing that conservatives are so hard up for high-profile converts to their cause that they are willing to accept ignorant street thugs like Charles Barkley as viable political candidates. Barkley's history of uttering racist comments in public, as well as two prosecutions for the exact same type of offense-beating up much smaller fellow drunks at bars-hardly categorize him as a traditional "conservative." But, if he's willing to say he's a Republican, I guess that's good enough for some people. Oh yeah, and our hero Rush likes him.
To: Yardstick
Is anyone here NOT bothered by the "shine my shoes" comment.
Savage was cleaning Barkley's clock (IMHO) and just lost a load of respect by making a comment like this.
The libs are going to spin this as some kind of racist Lottism, right?
Next time how about saying something like "You couldn't bag my groceries, buster."
To: LayoutGuru2
well, this set my record for responses to a post. thanks a lot, all...

I was hoping to find this thaks for posting it.
