I saw this today. I expected to be impressed by Savage. I wasn't. As a matter of fact, neither of them impressed me. The biggest argument against illegal immigration they could have made is that it's you and I- and the people in that audience- that pay for the prisons to house them, as well as the healthcare that they use. If you want impact on an issue, hit people where they will feel it the most- the pocketbook.

I know a lot of brilliant people who care nothing about sports.

Ha! That was the one comment by Barkley I liked. I've listened to Savage from time to time, but he came off like an bombastic know-it-all today.

Well, you know, Barkley has a record of intellectual debate, like when he said "That's what I hate about white people," or when he spit on a little girl in New Jersey.

you know, I agree with you. savage basically treated the cnn set like his own show, where he gets to yell at people whom he considers stupid (correctly or not) and then hang up on them. barkley, coming from his own mentality, isn't going to back down when someone calls him stupid (correctly or not). so in the end they just ended up screaming at each other - which was entertaining - and, well, whatever...

No, Barkley is pretty bright. Ask Rush Limbaugh.

Anyway, Barkley maneuvered an ignorant Michael Savage into saying that Barkley was a dumb jock who was not fit to shine his shoes. Not a good thing for Savage, of course. He loses the argument under the circumstances.

(Besides, Barkley's accent is actually better than most American Blacks.)

You'd be the first to assume that.

"SAVAGE: Excellent. Can you please tell me -- what's your education level?"

"BARKLEY: This is what I do. I went to Auburn University. I went to Auburn University."

Yeah. I went to the Sorbonne. Then, later that afternoon I went to the Eiffel Tower. Barkley does not seem to have earned a degree, even though he was giving the chance for a free education as a fine university.

I agree - one conviced against their will is of the same opinion still - It seems to me that he could use a little more tact if he really wants to get his point across.

His untactful approach only turns off those who are sitting on the fence or who are uneducated. Is he more interested in winning the battle or the war?

For a brilliant guy, he seemed to have a hard time figuring out why 30% of prisoners being illegal aliens suggests a problem. Does he not comprehend disproportionality?

No, Barkley is pretty bright.

He's actually quite intelligent, but his grasp of the issues is rather spotty, probably due to intellectual laziness brought on by the instant wealth he acquired through his tremendous athletic talent.

Ha! That was the one comment by Barkley I liked.

You never heard him say: his mom say "the Republicans are the party of the rich..
To which he said "but mom, we are rich now"

But, Barkley is supposed to be conservative. Rush loves him. What happened?
