I can't stipulate about Mr. Barkley's intelligence, but if I were to judge him by the way he treated the staff at the west suburban Atlanta golf club Ms. VC works at, I would have to say he's an alright guy.
He was pleasant, gave out autographs, and tipped very well.

(If Barkley's politcal acumen is anything like his golf swing....)

There's no way Savage could come out looking good in this one. Maybe because black sports stars are given more credibility than just about anyone else by the media.

Many thanks to a great patriot, a great American, Charles Barkley. Charles Barkley plays both sides. He is a liberal pretending to be conservative so he can sell his idiotic book. He's no patriot. Did you actually read the whole article??

Barkley could do better on issues if he would dig a little deeper and not give just general statements. He did much better on O'reilly.

Barkley may be bright, but he is ignorant. He posited opinions, without the research to back them up. In the beginning, Savage was asking Barkley to define himself, and it was obvious, Sir Charles defines himself as a jock, and better than most people. Maybe in 10 years, after some serious study. He needs to get an education. Rush Limbaugh saying he is bright, is not an endorsement, it is called name dropping.

BARKLEY: You know what Michael is? Michael is one of them
guys who is really, really smart, who's a (EXPLETIVE). Like, he wants...
Barkley called Michael Savage a "dumb ass" and, of course, Michael promptly responded calling Charles Barkley a "dumb ass." The show was very entertaining. Wow, I did not know how uninformed Charles Barkley really is. Why is an uneducated person who cannot hold a conversation and who admits to not knowing history on the payroll at CNN with such an important job? No wonder CNN is loosing the ratings battle.

Rush only likes Barkley because Sir Charles loves to rip on liberals. He hates the RAT party, hated the clintons, and totally despises Jesse Jackson saying things in a Sports Illustrated article that if I posted here would get me banned. He seems to despise alot of people on the left, but he is intellectually lazy, he doesn't take time out learn more, and he is pretty moderate in most of his views. Basically he's a dem, who doesn't know he is a dem.

(Confuse the left with scare tactics, use common sense, they fear it.)

Oh, I think that the expletive was the sort of thing which could be expected--and I even think he had the audience on his side when he said it.
Gosh, I believe he probably made points by his expletive--because he was pointing out that Savage was being insufferably arrogant.
(Go back and look at the times Savage had said things like who are you and what are your credentials and what level of education do you have. His closing shot about shining shoes just capped off his too-arrogant approach.)

Michael Savage is too quick witted for this slow paced and truth challenged program on CNN--(Coddling Nuckleheads Network).
A wiser and savvy producer would have just given the microphone and cameras over to Savage and lethim do what he does best; "Savageize" the Nation!

Maybe Savage is too arrogant to be as useful as he could be.

It is funny to listen to Savage bitch and moan about how he was treated half as bad as he treats those who call his show. Like Clinton he attacks others for using the very techniques he has perfected on his own show to silence all who might disagree with Savage. Savage is quite the hypocrite to complain about others who cant debate, he is so chicken of being shown up on his own show that he immediately cuts off any caller who it appears is about to make a point with which Savage disagrees.
To: jeremiah
Oh, I agree that Barkley is not cut out to be a serious political commentator. But Savage still lost, because he came across as narcissistic, IMO. (Barkley was merely self-confident--even if it was not completely justified. People will tolerate that a lot more than they will tolerate the "My IQ is higher than yours" crap.)

Although I have seen the name Michael Savage here frequently I have never heard him, nor read a transcript of his performance until now.
On the whole, given the sample of material posted here I'd have to say that Michael Savage is an adolescent a$$h*le pretending to be a thinking adult, and failing to fool any thinking adults.
I'm sure he's fooled many adolescent a$$h*les, however.
To: the_doc
Besides, Barkley's accent is actually better than most American Blacks OUCH! LOL
We'll have to agree to disagree. Barkley sounded like an ignorant moron and Michael stirred the pot (hehehe). Bet lots of people will tune in to hear him. And before he stirred the pot, Savage OWNED the conversation, with calm facts and obvious intelligence. IMHO, Savage was great! And to put the cherry on the top, CNN now has lost autho clients from a top-notch PR firm. Ya gotta love it.
To: modern_orthodox
I only heard the cuts on the show, but I thought he was great. Telling the jerk that he wasn't fit to shine his shoes lol. He'll gain 1000s of listeners.
To: hinckley buzzard
I'm sure he's fooled many adolescent a$$h*les, however. Guess you and Charles Barkley like resorting to expletives. If you've never heard his show you have no idea what you are talking about. Savage has a PhD at Berkley and traveled around the world and wrote many books on health. He is anything but an adolescent.

Yes, but remember he was put on the show because of his publishing company. He always bashes CNN. This was a setup and it may be funny to you but I don't remember ever an instance where Michael Savage invited a guest on his show and then insulted them. If you can find an example that would be great.
And to your point of him cutting off callers usually he'll leave them on until the point where they look like complete fools for making ridiculous statements and then they usually hang up on him. I've only heard him cut off people when they cuss or make racist statements.

>>Maybe because black sports stars are given more credibility than just about anyone else by the media.<<
This could be said about about all sports stars. I put sports stars in the same catagory as movie stars, who needs them.
I'll listening to the show right now and can't see why a guy like Barkley gets this kind of airtime.
Marx use to say that religion was the opiate of the masses. Today, sports has become the opiate of the masses.
