Every major black group in Miss. supports Pickering. Schumer is a racist. Well dammit, they have to say so loudly and publicly that they support Pickering. As major black groups.

The shrill voice of UpChuck Schooomer will shatter every window in the Senate. He was actually the voice behind the "Is it live or is it Memorex" commercial!

Every major black group in Miss. supports Pickering. Schumer is a racist.Current RATs seem to be absoluely tone deaf to voters and this proves it. Blacks support Pickering in Miss and yet a northern liberal attacks -- Schumer is toast! This translates into good news IMO -- will show the Country the RATs have no intention of doing anything but obstruct which lost them votes in the last election. The more they obstruct the better our chances our to pick up seats in 2004 and in the process show Schumer the door!

Can't they simply get enough votes to end the fillibuster?
I guess we need to brush up on the delaying tactics that can be used in the Senate, huh? Evidently they are going to use them all.
If he fillibusters, doesn't he have to TALK to whole time??

Boy, you'd think from the Democratic Party uproar that Pickering had once held a high-ranking postition in the KKK. No, that was dem senator byrd.
To: Howlin
I believe that there is no more actual filabuster in the Senate..i.e. non-stop talking and control of the floor....you merely "announce" that you're going to filabuster..then they have to round up the 60 votes to invoke cloture and gag you.....this move by Chuckie, IMHO, is stupid...it'll force several Senators...like Lincoln out into the open early.....how can they announce they they support Pickering, but vote NOT to invoke cloture...

Wow, those last few words of your post -- do you really mean to say that? Is that ironic use of the word?
To: Howlin
The question is why are they wasting all of this political capital on a nominee who is over 60 years old. He will not serve more than 10 years anyway. I think the other nominees, who are much younger, are more important than Pickering. I actually would not mind if the reject Pickering. Then Bush could nominate someone just as conservative but 20 years younger.

Just a publicity ploy. I predict the nomination will be affirmed by at least a 65-35 vote.
To: Mudboy Slim
I agree. This is great news, but only if the wimpy GOP actually finds the gonads to MAKE him do a real old-time filibuster.
Whiney annoying Chuckie up there, griping away for hours on end, is a real winning image for the Dems to show that they're serious about getting things moving in this country.

These guys keep threatening, let them do it. Let them get up on the senate floor and talk for as long as they want. The GOP can make sure there's someone in the senate at all times and the rest of them can go out on the TV circuit and tell the people how the dems are holding up work in the senate. They can tell the story of Judge Pickering, the blacks of Miss can do their part too, and the dems will look like fools and obstructors. Lott used to run from the threat, Frist ought to let them go ahead and do it. If they want to destroy themselves, let them.
To: ken5050
Evidently the Dems have had a meeting and have decided to obstruct on every level where they can find a "rule" or "precedent" to back them up.
I find it interesting that they now want to invoke the rules of the Senate, when Daschle apparently just did whatever HE wanted, damn the rules, while he was majority leader.
Fine by me. The more they do this, the more the American people will see who is holding up progress in the Congress.
I hope Frist learned his lesson yesterday.
