I took my son to see Michael Moore live at the Roundhouse, in north London, before Christmas. The US radical and author of the best-selling book Stupid White Men was (mostly) clever, funny, angry, sharp, iconoclastic and sceptical about the lies and humbug processed by the US government and big business. Sure there were some flunked bits – you expect that, the troughs are part of the adventure, an evening with a well-worn rebel.

What we did not expect was to feel so enraged at one point that we almost walked out. It was when Moore went into a rant about how the passengers on the planes on 11 September were scaredy-cats because they were mostly white. If the passengers had included black men, he claimed, those killers, with their puny bodies and unimpressive small knives, would have been crushed by the dudes, who as we all know take no disrespect from anybody. God save us from such stupid white men, especially now, when in the US and the UK, black people's lives are being ripped to shreds by drugs, lawlessness, fear and frightful violence plus the endless circle of racism, exclusion and incarceration. This is not awesome, Mr Moore; it is a calamity, for descendants of slaves unimaginably more so.

I think too that Moore is confusing the difference between bravery and bullying. Bullying is what he is thinking of when he is thinking of the stereotype of the gangbanging black, white, hispanic man who doesn't take crap(and who is the racist?). Bravery comes in all sizes, genders, and races and was best exemplified by the passengers of flight 93. Not a bully, trash talking, stereotype among them, but were they ever brave and they probably saved a lot of Americans for that bravery. I have no doubt had the other flights had some clue as to their fate and time to thwart it, they would have done the same.

I, like you, have a big guy for a hubby--6'2" and a hulk of a man. He is very quiet and sweet, but he is the bravest person I have ever known and is intimidating even though he doesn't try to be. Seen it happen before, the respect instantly given, and I chuckle since I know what a big teddy bear he is. Those hijackers were maniacs--they wouldn't have cared about Michael Moore's stereotype of a black man and would have offed him just as quick as a caucasian man standing up to them. They were crazy and sick and saw us all as Americans ie targets. Perhaps Michael Moore should get a clue--hijacker sees American, not black or white man. Hijacker wants to kill American. Hijacker will fight to his death to kill white OR black American. They, unlike this baffoon, do not discriminate.

This is key. The passengers on flight 93 knew the terrorists were on a suicide mission and that their only hope to survive was to attempt to overpower the terrorists. The passengers on the other flights did not know they were headed for the WTC and the Pentagon, if they did I'm sure they would have taken their chances and attacked.

Fact is all of the brave men who took on the terrorists on Flight#93 happened to be white.
