[history]
The State Department has charged that two of the country's largest aerospace companies, Hughes Electronics Corp. and Boeing Satellite Systems Inc., illegally transferred sensitive U.S. space technology to China in the 1990s that could have helped Beijing's military develop intercontinental missiles.
If a federal administrative judge and, later, a top State Department official agree with the allegations in a 32-page State Department "charging letter" filed without public notice last Thursday, the companies could be fined as much as $60 million and barred for three years from selling controlled technologies overseas, a penalty that could particularly hurt Boeing.
The companies have strenuously denied wrongdoing in the case, which began with a series of failed space launches in China starting in 1995.

How about forgetting the stock holder's punishment and putting the persons who did it in friggin jail?
I am so tired of the justice department funding itself at the expense of already battered stock holders. Crimes = Jail, They are not supposed to be a line item in a profit column in the Justice's budget. That makes them no better than the criminals they are prosecuting.

You are absolutely correct on this. It is scandalous how it has been handled.

The amazing thing is that Boeing BOUGHT the division that is being charged...kind of like buying a used car with a bad smell coming from the trunk.
"The Hughes Electronics space launch division, which committed the supposed improprieties, was purchased by Boeing in 2000 for $3.7 billion."
What business school left them with that idea?

Boeing moved to Chicago and brought the anchor with them. Do you think Seattle knew something when the moving truck derby was on.
To: Linda
clinton's lax commerce dept had a hand in this.

If I understand the org chart at all (which would be a miracle), the space launch thingy is anchored in So Cal.
About all that Seattle knew was that someone ran over them with that moving van.

If you buy a subsidiary with a criminal problem, it becomes your problem. Otherwise, firms could escape prosecution by seeking takeovers.
This scandal was part of the clinton China treason. It's interesting that the State Department may be following up on it. I thought that Bush had decided to give clinton a free pass on his various felonies and treasons.

The headline is misleading and inaccurate!! The Chinese were GIVEN nothing!! Willie sold it to them. He, the DNC, and members of his administration and party with business ties in China got more the ample return for the technology that Willie arranged to have turned over.
We have never had a full or accurate accounting of all the money that Willie and the DNC received from these commies. But, the stuff wasn't given, it was sold.

This article should have BREAKING NEWS status. Another article on this subject is freely "postable" by the Associated Press and has been posted under Breaking News. I hope it stays there.
This issue is a fundamental conservative issue. It is of major importance and has been a major topic of discussion on FR for many years.
To: Linda
Absolutely, Clinton has his fingerprints all over this. Probably scored gobs of campaign cash in return for the favor. Will the history books ever be able to do justice to exposing this fraudulent, self-indulgent, careless president as one of the worst we've ever had?
