The height of Powell's popularity was in 1996. He did not run because he did not want a rectal exam of his entire life. His wife did not want him to run. He would go through the same rectal exam if he ran as a VP. He simply will not do that. If you heard him today on Tony Snow, it wasn't an in your face comment, but he definitely blamed the Clintons for much of our current foreign policy problems. He has little respect for Hillary so how could he possible run with her?

VP is the ONLY national office Powell would ever run for. Nobody shoots at VP's,and Powell damn sure ain't a risk taker.

There is no way he will switch parties to run under Hillary.

What makes you think he is a Republican? He's for gun control and gun registraion,he's for affirmative-action and quotas,and he's pro-abortion. Besides,he even stated before the 2000 elections that he wanted to be Sec of State,and it didn't make any difference to him which party won.

The press isn't even going to investigate or report on Bubbette!'s past,so why would they do it to her running mate? Besides,Powell is a "black hero",and is untouchable,. Nobody can question him without being called a racist.

I'm glad that rule has been changed. I don't think W & Laura would have abused it, but we could get another vile couple in the WH again. Some people don't seem to have learned.

Wasn't Powells wife the reason he didn't run for president before ? She was alledgedly ready to leave him or something that serious if he ran for President .....if my memory serves me correctly she was a big element in that decision.

That was the excuse given,but I don't believe it. It didn't keep him from becoming secretary of state,did it? Nope,IMHO,the reason Powell didn't and won't run for president is he isn't a risk taker. People shoot at presidents.

After her election team crunched numbers they decided a "Ross Perot type" candidate aimed at the conservative vote would do for her what the original Perot did for X42i

That comment makes me wonder what the 'toons had on Perot to convince him to make his runs. They couldn't have paid him enough money, he's rich enough on his own. They must have had something on him.

Colin Powell will not run as a DemocRAT. If he were going to run, he would have done it in 1996. He would have been elected.

He won't run at all, if what I've read in the past is true. That his wife simply does not want to go through an election cycle. She doesn't seem to feel she's up to it.

They played Perot. They convinced him he had a shot. If he was or wasn't in the know about his role, that was unimportant, don't you think?

Also, I've heard all the stuff about Perot's rise to wealth through Government programs. Has anyone looked into his holdings and satellite companies to see if the national averages held or did they mysteriously spike here and there?


In anycase he has desolved from the collective memory of the national press. But there are hundreds of Perot's out their, the socialists just need to find the most carismatic vote snatcher, and I believe it sure ain't Sharpton! Unless he's workin' for Dubya! :-)

I heard a story about Hillary admonishing Chelsea not to talk to the flight crew on board their plane because they were "the help." Somebody please correct me if they find an inaccuracy in this.

I wish I could help you, because I know a first hand witness to the attacks. Unfortunately his position won't allow him to be used as a source in any formal article, even after the change in administrations.

He could also tell you about how secret service agents who mentioned their concerns about the Clintons' behavior would be demoted and reassigned if Hillary found out, and how Chelsea would ask her secret service agents to perform the sam types of embarassing tasks that you have mentioned Hillary enjoyed. Finally, he could tell you about how the female Clintons enjoyed insulting and deriding the secret service agents assigned to protect them.
