Many of you have asked if there was another way to contact
our military men and women besides sending e-mails.
This might make an easy to do classroom project or office project.

We know that military lurkers AND active duty FReepers come to the Canteen.
They often come to "escape" from the often dreary world they live in while ensuring our Freedom.
Many of our service men and women are experiencing their 1st Holiday Season away from home.
Will you take some time to put a smile on a military lurkers face today?
Please Post your holiday graphics, jokes, prayers, stories, music, links etc.
This may be cyberspace but know that military lurkers today will know they are not forgotten.
It has been brought to my attention in an e-mail I received that the opening threads
I do are boring and that is why people do not post in the Canteen.
And that I do not allow others to post threads because it is "my" Canteen.
Let me assure you it is NOT "my" Canteen.
It belongs to the military AND YOU.
ANYONE who wants to do a thread is more than welcome to do one.
All I ask is to let me know when you want to do it
so I can co-ordinate with with you.
If anyone has any objections to way the Canteen is run
please state your objections on the thread.
To: Admin Moderator
OOPS! Can you change the date on the thread to today's date?
Thank You

Good Morning, Tonkin!
I think you're doing just great!
You're keeping this thread going for the troops and for the military lurkers who come to see that they are never forgotten.
I think this canteen is especially important now since the events of yesterday and the troop deployments.
Keep it going!
May God Bless You and the USO Canteen!

What an elegant foral arrangement for today. Thank you Tonk.
Today my husband's family gathers for their Christmas Celebration. It is actually a "German Mob". We no longer fit into anyone's home, living proof that German Catholics were slow to figure out the Rythum Method was not fail proof in my generation. We will be gathering in the Catholic School gym, which my husband helped to build in 1963. We don't actually need THAT much space,, but the kitchen is big, and the price for rental is right.

I'm hoping that today's transportation is NOT needed for you and the Girlz.

Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:
There were two good ol' boys from Alabama, who love
to fish, and they wanted to do some ice fishing.
They'd heard about it up in Canada, so they took off
up there. The lake was frozen nicely. They stopped
just before they got to the lake at a little bait
shop and got all their tackle. One of them said,
"We're gonna need an ice pick." So they got that,
and they took off. In about two hours, one of them
was back at the shop and said, "We're gonna need
another dozen ice picks."
Well, the fellow in the shop wanted to ask some
questions, but he didn't. He sold him the picks,
and the old boy left. In about an hour, he was back.
Said, "We're gonna need all the ice picks you've got."
The bait man couldn't stand it any longer. "By the
way," he asked, "how are you fellows doing?"
"Not very well at all," he said. "We ain't even got
the boat in the water yet."

Hi Tonk and all,
We are very proud of our 15 year old daughter. She wanted to forego Christmas presents this year and do community service work instead. One of her projects has been to make cord rosaries for the soldiers facing combat.
We receive the newsletter from Our Lady's Rosary Makers in Kentucky, who have the supplies. They mentioned that combat soldiers were in need of cord rosaries. They have to be made with all black, non-reflective materials. Black cord, black beads, and black plastic crucifixes, plus able to fit around the neck were the specs.
Cord rosaries are relatively easy to make. We just sent 50 off to a chaplain Tonk hooked us up with. We also sent some St. Michael holy cards in the box, the ones with the St. Michael prayers on the back.
If you need more details or would like to participate, just freepmail me.
God bless all our troops!

Good morning from Louisville, KY!
Just about to have breakfast here, working on second cup of coffee. *s* Managed to get most of the stuff we got for Christmas crammed into the rental car for the trip back to VA Beach tomorrow.
Heading over to Mom and Dad's house later on to catch the UofK/UofL basketball game (GO CATS!) and spending the night there. Feel sorry for their dog-A 125lb spoiled rotten Doberman around our sons. *L* Actually he's been really good considering what he's had to put up with this week.
Have a great day everyone!

My Gift to the Canteen Crew and Troops
Prayers
When the world falls down around you
and a prayer will see you through
Say an extra prayer for someone
Who may need it more than you.
For who knows whose hearts are breaking
In the silence of the night
Just that extra prayer you whisper
May help someone to see the light.
Every time you help a stranger
With an extra prayer or two
You are building extra blessings
That will always come back to you.
