Very nice article. Especially about Jimmy Carter and Neville Chamberlain having the same place in history. They deserve each other.

Great article.

Your post is an insult to Chamberlain.

We are fortunate in the Central California area because Hansen is an occasional guest on KMJ580. He is great to listen to and I like how well grounded his political views are.

Victor Davis Hansen again knocks one out of the ballpark.

Sorry Neville, I didn't mean to offend you. Jimmy Carter is easily twice the gutless appeaser that you were. Please accept my apology.

I hear some call Hansen a libertarian, others call him a conservative, which one is he?

A clear thinker?

So if a newly constituted Iraq emerges as a sane state, America will have no desire or need to protect Mr. Mubarak, King Hussein, or the Saudi royals from the wave of popular uprisings that we ourselves helped to let loose in Iraq. King Hussein certainly does not need protecting, having been dead for some time now. His son Abdullah might. But actually Jordan has been one of the few real Arab allies in the WOT. A democratic Jordan (Palestein East) would be worse.
Otherwise, a pretty good article.

I hear some call Hansen a libertarian, others call him a conservative, which one is he? He's a conservative, IMO. If he was a libertarian Mr. Hanson would be towing the Harry Browne line that 9/11 was America's fault, which he is clearly not doing.

Not all libertarians oppose the war. You ought to do some more research before making such an idiotic statement.

Dane never makes a non idiotic statement. Hes an admitted ex druggie who now advocates the war on drugs. Ill be slightly nicer to him when he reports for sentencing for being a druggie back in the day.

Well, since he won't listen, I think I'm going list the libertarian supporters of the war.
The Ayn Rand Institute
Reason Magazine
The RLC
Walter Williams
And many rank and file Libertarians

Excellent read. Thanks for the post. Clinton's place in history becomes more and more marginal by the day. The scumbag and spouse (aka PIAPS and BJ) are totally eclipsed by Ronaldus Maximus on the stage of time. The only ones cheering on the Klintoons are the Red and Pink Daiper babies and their hangers on. The rest of America grew up fast after 9/11.

In an otherwise brilliant-as-usual article, the author tips his hat to a leftist lie thusly:
"as discredited as segregationist Republicans were during the civil-rights movement"
The Democrat Party historically and currently are the supporters of racial pre-judgement (prejudice) and separatism. For about four years there (1966 - 1970) they were actually for equality. But before then and ever since, they have been in favor of treating people differently on the basis of pigmentation.
Contrarywise, conservatives and the Republican Party have (virtually) always stood for equality among the races. This principled position makes us Politically Incorrect now, since we don't want to implement racist hiring policies (a.k.a. "Affirmative Action").
Classic examples are LBJ, one of the most racist Presidents ever, compared to any of the last five Republican Presidents.
Keep up the good work, VDH. But please steer clear of endorsing the lies of the left.

So Iraq is not merely a referendum on European-American relations, but rather a litmus test of the moral status of Europe itself, and of what side of history it wishes to be on. Let us hope it awakens from its ethical coma to take its rightful place at the vanguard of the war against barbarity. Will it? Ask the Liberal Magic Eight-Ball...
