The ignorance of Mrs. Murray (aid worker slams witless Senator)
Washington Times - Letters to the Editors ^ | 23 December 2002 | HARRY G. JACOBSON

I have lived and worked in more than 50 countries with various foreign affairs agencies over the course of my career. So I was especially appalled by the comments of Sen. Patty Murray, Washington Democrat, regarding Osama bin Laden ("Murray hit for bin Laden remark," Nation, Saturday). Her statements were a slap in the face to countless Peace Corps volunteers,U.S.embassy employees and specialists within the U.S. Agency for International Development who have dedicated their lives to a cause President Kennedycalled "the long twilight struggle for freedom."

O.K. Here we go:

Afghanistan: Complex Emergency Situation Report #1 (US aid BEFORE 911) September 6, 2001

USG Humanitarian Assistance

On September 22, 2000, Assistant Secretary Karl F. Inderfurth re-declared a complex humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan for FY 2001. In addition, U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan William B. Milam issued a disaster declaration for Afghan refugees in Pakistan on February 2, 2001. To date, FY 2001 USG humanitarian assistance provided by USAID/OFDA, USAID/FFP, USDA, the Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (State/PRM), the joint Department of State/Department of Defense Demining Program, the Department of State's Bureau International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (State/INL) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) totals $173,588,887, including both assistance inside Afghanistan and assistance to Afghan refugees in neighboring countries.

Breakdown of the $173 million is detailed in the source. Interestingly this report is dated September 6, 2001, just five days before 911.

He basically acted as Sudan's bank in exchange for them harboring him.
He has used his wealth and equipment to further his own goals. If locals benefited from it, it was coincidental.

From todays Mpls (red)Star Tribune
Page A13 of the Dec. 21 Star Tribune briefly reports comments made by Sen. Patty Murray of Washington. In a discussion with high school students she suggests that the United States emulate Osama bin Laden's humanitarian efforts in building roads, schools, etc., in underdeveloped countries. She conveniently ignores two facts: Starting with the Marshall Plan after World War II, the United States has spent more on foreign aid than any nation in history. Bin Laden's avowed goal is to slaughter the very students she was addressing.

Considering the editorial outrage prompted by Sen. Trent Lott's recent comments, I'm sure you will immediately call for Murray's ouster. But I won't hold my breath; after all, she's a Democrat.

The US spends more in ONE DAY in foreign aid, than bin Laden's entire NET WORTH.

Y'know, with all the outrage about Senator Murray praising Osama, I'm embarrassed that I'd forgotten about how much it insulted the work of Americans who had gone overseas to help in 3rd world countries -- including and in-law, who helped build water systems for several African nations.

Is there some kind of "Idiot of the Year" contest in Washington state? First it's one of their Congresscruds kissing Saddam's butt and now Murray.

building day care facilities

Is this so women could go to work?

No, someone has to watch the kids while mom goes to the soccer stadium to be beheaded.

An older Jewish friend of mine some years ago, who was pretty wise, used to say: "Why does he dislike me -- I never did anything for him."

The fact is, if you help someone, that person is quite likely to resent you, because you have immediately put him on a lower level below yourself, just because he needed your help. We humans are a little strange, sometimes.

This is an excellent find. I recieved an e-mail yesterday from a liberal relative that is excellent as well. It is an essay written by a Hindu- American Dr, calling to task American liberals who blame the US for 9-11. The e-mail says he writes for an Alanta newspaper. If I can verify that the info is correct I will post it. If any of you Georgia freepers have knowledge of this Hindu- American Dr who teaches at a Med School in Atlanta let me know.

This is an excellent find.

Thanks, but credit where credit is due. I looked up the letter after reading a quotation from it in the following article:

When Sen. Lott made a realy dumb statement he apoligized and yet people screamed for his resignation. From the articles I have read ms. murray has not apoligized and no one is calling for her resignation. I did not like liberals in the past but I am now finding them absolutely repulsive!

Here's what I added to the outgoing message:

FOR THE SAKE OF WASHINGTON STATE AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, PLEASE RESIGN IMMEDIATELY, SO THAT AN AMERICAN CAN TAKE YOUR PLACE.
