Is that shark pic real? If so, that's one of the more terrifying things I've seen.

I was there. It was on the flight deck of the USS Midway CV-41, and the squadron was my sister squadron, VFA-192 Golden Dragons. I was in the VFA-195 Dambusters. The Dragon's lost a sparrow, the sidewinder that's pictured, and a HARM (high-speed anti-radiation) missile on that cruise. It was the first time we went to the Arabian sea with the hornets, if I remember correctly. It was either in 1987 or 1988.

Nope. I was there. It happened because I saw it. USS Midway.

Two gets you three it's fake. A missile that fell of its plane and landed on non-skid before igniting would not fly straight; it would have torn itself to pieces long before it got to the end of the flight deck. Besides, you can be sure there'd be sparks and a lot more debris. The truth is stranger than fiction. There were 3 missiles that came off that squadron's hornets when I was on the Midway, and this was one of them. I've got the pictures in my cruisebook. I don't remember any of the three missiles breaking up, they just flew right off the angle into the water.
