This is the product of a failed launcher. Aircraft rapidly decelerates... AIM-9 still moving 140 knts. Sailor takes corrective action.

Have you ever been aboard an aircraft carrier?

When I was an AC we would sometimes loose external stores on an arrested landing. Fortunately they were sonobuys not bombs or rockets. There was a policy of not landing with explosive ordanace on external hard points. Now days expensive missles, smart bombs and JDAMS are to expensive to jetison.

I had the unique pleasure of driving a Subaru on the flight deck of the Connie. Even got to ride it down the elevator and around the hanger deck!

The aircraft carrier launching a car is the USS ENTERPRISE. It was for a fund raiser. The sailors get to use a sledge hammer on the car for a buck then we launch it. The proceeds go to either MWR or NMCRF.

Sidewinder being launched from F-16. I don't believe that the motor is firing in the original two pictures.

My all time favorite was Gore looking down the barrel of his rifle. It wasn't faked either. Someone send for Registered and get it reposted. :^}

I don't know much about it. I just cut and pasted the text that was with the image. I didn't mean to imply that I had ever been on the Enterprise. I regret that I have never even seen a carrier. I imagine that it's a sight to behold! Not to mention lobbing cars off the deck.

While I love that picture, he is attaching the sling and there is no magazine in the weapon.

Was back in '83 or '84 I think, when they were changing her home port from Bremerton to San Diego. They loaded about 600 of the sailors cars onboard. Yellow shirts were in charge of offloading. Those boys don't mess around. You had about a 15 second window to get your vehicle moving, or it was getting pushed off.

In order for these photos to be real, you have to assume the photog was planning to shoot this plane before it landed and got lucky, plus that the camera was equipped with an auto-winder (not a semi-auto), plus he simply nailed the shots. I suppose it's theoretically possible . . . .

It's still bad safety practice. That thing can put your eye out, you know.
