[history]
Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border.
White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary. But excerpts from an internal Social Security Administration memo obtained this month say the agreement "is expected to move forward at an accelerated pace," with the support of both governments, and could be in force by next October.

I read the post, and it looked like an excellent argument for the elimination of Social InSecurity. My opinion of the program is best expressed by the name I've been giving it throughout this thread. I am no friend of "SI". I would love to see it abolished.
But - at the same time - I also believe in essential fairness, both to us and the people who visit our country. Is it fair to pay in to something that's marketed as a retirement program, without getting any chance of even token payments out of it?
Perhaps saying that illegals do have an interest in the money they have paid in is the first step towards recognizing that you should, too!

ALL paying into SS Nope, afraid not. Many illegal workers don't have any paperwork and no SS is every witheld or paid. Nor do many of them pay any sort of Federal or State income taxes either. That's how it works when you pay folks "under the table". You also foget those who have never worked a day here that get all sorts of free medical care and public assistance. I would wager that the total cost of these illegals FAR exceeds their contribution.

This is so outrageous I can't believe it is true! If this really comes about, I am ready for whatever brawl develops - the country I was born in no longer exists.

One other comment: If we do, in fact, live to see SI money, our best bet may be to move to Mexico and enjoy its lower cost of living! That's about the only way you can stretch a half-decent living out of what SI pays.

But that was 20 years ago, before Social Services really got corrupted.

>What the U.S. should be doing is calculating the number of illegals here and sending Vicente Fox a bill.
I'm for it, if we add the cost of patrolling the border!

37,000 new claims from Mexicans who worked in the United States legally and paid Social Security taxes but have been unable to claim their checks, One independent estimate put the total at $1 billion a year -- a large sum, but a trifle compared with the $372 billion in Social Security benefits currently being paid to 46.4 million recipients.
These are legal workers who paid ssi taxes. Not letting them get it back is robbery.
To: cardinal4
LEGAL aliens who paid into S.S. have always received Social Security benefits in their country of origin or America. However,in order to get Medicare, the Alien must return to the U.S.The same requirement for Citizens.

Bump.

"The second thing is that SS recipients, on average, receive far more than they ever put in."
Not true for people retiring today or tommorow. It is only true for people who retired in the past.
To: Republic of Texas
because they are here ILLEGALLY This agreement concerns only people working legally and who paid ssi taxes.

What's wrong with this? This is "Komp
ASSionate Konservatism"!!! Our lord and savior, George w. Bush (Oops! I almost forgot: Thank God G.W.'s our President, and not algore! We love you!) has a plan:
It's a plan so clever, so genius, so crafty, it'll really sock it to the liberals! Or is it a plan so clever, so genius, so crafty, it'll really sock it to the Conservatives? Yeah, that's it.
Does anyone want to try and defend this? I'd love to hear the excuses...

End Social Security NOW!
To: BallandPowder
C'mon people! Is this really a surprise to anybody? Bush has desired a Western Hemispheric Union. The goal is to integrate all of the countries of North America with Mexico. Then Central Amrica. And eventually all of South America. A western version of the EU. This is the agenda of globalism. This is the creation of a "New World Order". Now here's the problem. This is a very liberal agenda. The real question is, is Bush really a liberal globalist? Does he really have the interest of the nation our founding fathers created,at heart?? Or is working toward global governance?

what a ridiculous SS rule! Common sense would dictate that you take the sum of what you paid into it over a lifetime and divide it by the number of years left (using US average life expentancy). Then again, we're dealing with the Social Security Administration NOT common sense.
We should just end the SS scam now.
To: cardinal4
It's much better warm, isn't it? There are some who would absolutely refuse to backstep and admit an error around here. You and I both know who they are.

People have been going back to Mexico and collecting SS for years. This sounds like something new.
