Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border.

White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary. But excerpts from an internal Social Security Administration memo obtained this month say the agreement "is expected to move forward at an accelerated pace," with the support of both governments, and could be in force by next October.

but until the US sits down with Mexico and develops a worker entry program

If we want a guest worker program we can make one -----but we do not and should not have to sit down with Mexico. Mexico should have nothing at all to say about how we do it, how we run it. That corrupt government should have no jurisdiction or authority over the USA.

I think it is likely that Fox has informed Bush that if there are any changes in our current immigration "policy", the result could be immense social unrest in Mexico leading directly to a Communist revolution. Fox and Bush seem to agree that it is better to bleed the US economy a little bit than to let Mexico fall into Venezuela-style chaos. I think that is a debate that should be held publicly, in Congress, not settled by a gentleman's agreement between the two Presidents.

Buchanan is un-electable in the US. It may not be nice or fair, but it's the truth. Although he may have some excellent ideas regarding immigration, he simply will never be President here. We need to find another Conservative candidate who is serious about protecting the border.

I agree about Buchanan ... Tancredo is the only other conservative voice willing to espouse the Immigration Problem.

Hello Fitz, I new you would get around to me sooner or later.

Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't Mexico agreed, at our request, to attempt to patrol their southern border with a mind to limit the South Americans from reaching our southern border? Would that be called give & take?

Give and take? They keep out a few Guatemalans but send 20 million Mexicans? The Mexicans also deported some Cuban refugees headed to the US whose boat happened to land on Mexican shores instead of ours ----what right did they have to do that when they demand open borders with us?

It's going to happen anyhow because of gross social injustice in Mexico. Bandaid solutions aren't the answer. Some of the campesinos don't wish to leave their homeland and things are worsening in Mexico because of Fox's policies. What needs to be done is some serious and fast reforms but that's not happening.

>>>They Mexican goverment wants OUR social security money to prop up their program!<<<

Interestingly enough, Mexico has privatized its retirement funds. One can select one's "AFORE" from one of around a dozen different competing companies. I'm not sure if AFORE is the same as social security, but it's a pro-entrepreneurial approach that I think the USA should adopt. I certainly don't think most of us here will ever get our social security investment back.

I posted a link to your thread in the Breaking News. This is one of the most important issues of our day.

What Constituional principle authorizes Welfare for foreigners?

How do we legally authorize Social Security for Mexican Nationals?

WHY would US politicians promote this concept?

These questions must be dealt with by every single conservative. This is an issue of paramount importance for conservative activists. It is a defining issue.

Is "conservatism" a philosophy which promotes the Great Global Society Program?

Besides the Central Americans are obtaining Mexican birth certificates they can buy. They sometimes get caught but that's only until they figure out they need to buy the IFE card also.

"but should I die tomorrow... Tuff. I ain't getting a dime of that money back."

Not only that, Jarhead, but another little known SSA "rule" that few know about is this...I know because it happened to me. Only the last few years (no matter that you worked and paid in for 40 years!) count toward your SS disability. I was too physically a mess to work and filed for disability, got turned down...now, I didn't realize they automatically turn you down the first couple times...silly me, I thought it was based on reality of physical condition. So I spent the last 5 years caring for ill relatives and grandkids and living off my savings. When I got too ill to do that I applied again and was told I have NO benefits coming...only the last few years, with enough "credits" paid in count. Now, after paying into this silly scheme for 40 years, I was paying SS before medicare came on board, no matter how ill I become, I can get no benefits...zip...gone, forever. Now my home is for sale, so I can have a way to live. Sweet deal, don't ya think???

One day in the SS office, 4 non English speaking Mexicans, all young and strong looking were there to change their address for their checks. All on SSI...which means they never paid into the system. They simply walk into the system and claim "depression, drug addictions, etc. and bingo...instant checks.

This government needs to start looking out for it's own TAX PAYING citizens....FIRST. I won't hold my breath.
