Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border.

White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary. But excerpts from an internal Social Security Administration memo obtained this month say the agreement "is expected to move forward at an accelerated pace," with the support of both governments, and could be in force by next October.

Will it cost more than treating illegals at hospitals? More than room and board in our prisons? More than the lost tax revenue? I don't know. I do know that the first responsibility of the Commander in Chief is to protect the country and the Constitution. It doesn't say that we should only do that if it doesn't cost too much.

What the hell? Isn't the 13 billion or so a year the legals/illegals mail back enough? And besides, Vincente claims that they're all still Mexican citizens under his jurisdiction, even though they're in the US. Why the hell should we pay anything to anybody that is still claimed as a Mexican citizen?

Bush is to Americans what Chernoble is to Russia, a radioactive poison that should be hurled out of office.

A little over the top there, you know.

This totally makes sense - don't you guys get it? They tell us that our Social Security "Trust Fund" is running out of money. The obvious answer is to send millions of those dollars to Mexico so they can prop up their own Social Security program. That way OUR Social Security system is saved and the world is a better place /sarcasm off

Seriously, this single issue (actually the entire immigration/Mexico/etc junk pile) has about pushed me over the edge. Bush has totally lost his marbles. First he wants to legalize millions of illegals - rewarding law breakers. Now he wants to send our SS money to Mexico.

What the hell is GW smoking?

Clinton sold our country to China - now Bush is doing the same with Mexico....

Anyone care to bring up impeachment for treason? Bush obviously wants to put on a show of being a strong defender of the US with his "war on terror" but in reality is planning to give the country away to Mexico - giving away our sovereignty and thus nullifying the Constitution and all the laws of the land.

OK, now I am officially pissed off.....

In 1998 the underground economy created a loss of $195 billion per year in revenue to the federal govt I wonder what that loss is to state and local?

All I can think of is what Jeff Flake (R-AZ) said on O'Reilly's show a few weeks back. He sat there with a sh*t eating grin on his face (disturbing in itself) while he explained to BillO how all the undocumented workers have contributed greatly to our economy by using FRAUDULENT Social Security numbers, therefore paying money that they would never be collecting.

I wonder what amount of money is received yearly from this FRAUD. And, I wonder if Mr. Fox might be demanding that this money be returned to the undocumented illegal aliens and if this figures into this lobbying somehow. hmmm

I don't get your point. With me specifically. I think we should tighten our immigration laws and recapture this lost money. You're preaching to the chior here.

It seems if they pay into SS no matter what country

Using stolen and fraudulent Social Security numbers and other documents is a felony crime ---at least if an American citizen does it, apparently not if a Mexican citizen does it. This is like saying an armed robber is entitled to the money they made while committing a felony crime. They committed a crime and now believe they are entitled to more money?

Hold on a minute.

You can't have it both ways. If you insist that illegals should pay taxes, well, then they should have the same rights as citizens to receive whatever payments they would be entitled to.

The alternative is for them to be allowed to not pay Social InSecurity taxes while in the US. Of course that brings its own problems: A heck of a lot of people would become Mexican citizens if they could work here without fear of reprecussions and not pay SS taxes.

Which do you think should happen? Taking taxes earmarked to provide benefits and then making it illegal to obtain the benefits is not fair by any stretch of the imagination.

Then Bush shouldn't hand over the cash, but stop them from paying SS here.

The only ones who paid in were ones who stole or purchased a fake Social Security number, often numbers stolen from innocent Americans who then lost their credit, those working for cash don't pay taxes on their income.

SS is a ponzi scheme, it is lurching towards bankruptcy. With that said, why would we pay those living out of the country? We should be talking about privatization, then the money would be the payees, not general budget funds in a check kiting govt.

If they paid into it legally, they are entitltled to it, I misread the article. After your post I read it again, it doesnt say ILLEGAL at all. No, Migrant workers who have paid into should get it back.

I have had four, yes, four others contributing to MY SS because they used my number while employed in the US. Do they deserve their share of what they paid into SS?

Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working

I think this should be the big question ----WHY is the American government being pushed around by the very corrupt Mexican government?? Do they have some dirt on some of our politicians or what?

I haven't read through the entire thread, so maybe someone else has posted this. Michelle Malkin was on a local radio talk show this morning. She said that this is a done deal, a Christmas gift from George Bush to Vicente Fox. Bush was unable to get the amnesty through in time for Christmas so this will do. I'm to the point where I don't see the point in voting, if this is what we get.

The sanctity of the borders and the corruption of our govt in this mess, is the trigger that should bring violent change about. Your post of 2000, is so hard to read(the details make me sick) that it has to be ignored by those that are in charge. They couldn't hide their heads(up their a##) any longer. I concur with those that believe that we are going to follow the lead of Europe, and meld the US into the whole of the Americas. Losing our sovereignty in this way, will be treason, and answerable with Jeffersons admonition to water the tree.
