Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border.
White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary. But excerpts from an internal Social Security Administration memo obtained this month say the agreement "is expected to move forward at an accelerated pace," with the support of both governments, and could be in force by next October.

I do? I live in Dallas, Texas. We have a bigger ILLEGAL economy here than most cities LEGAL economy. I worked in Restaurants for 20 years. Most of the employees are ILLEGAL. The construction and landscaping industry is built on ILLEGAL labor. OUR responsibility is to protect OUR borders and OUR tax base. Mexico's responsibility is to theirs.
Illegal labor distorts our entire LEGAL economy, and if Mexico is too stupid to do what it takes to create a middle-class, it is not our responsibility to help them.
I informed her that it was quite intentional. "Oh, she said, I see".
" If we are going to save America, it's time to get serious with our borders and immigration policies. If we're going to preserve our way of life, it's time to get serious with our borders and immigration policies. If we're going to take America back, the place to start is with our borders and immigration policies. "
Social Security is one of the most fundamental issues for truly conservative debate. This is a significant development far more serious than 90% of the current "headlines".
I found out about this article elsewhere and came to FR to participate in the discussion. I am very dissapointed to see it buried. (yes, it is buried)
When someone legally immigrates here they are considered a "permanent" resident. There are some categories of non-immigrants who can work here but not many. If a permanent resident works his 40 quarters, pays in and qualifies he should be entitled to his benefit as long as he stays in a "permanent" residence status. If he chooses to abandon his legal residency and return to his home country he should get nothing. What part of "permanent" don't people get.
The only people who should receive SS oversees are US citizens. If the immigrant wanted to receive SS and return home to retire he should have naturalized when he was here.
Illegal aliens should get nothing, I view any money they pay into the system as a partial offset for all the services they received while here.
There is a larger picture in all of this. The concept of US citizenship is being eroded to the point where it is meaningless. The difference between legal and illegal, citizen or alien is being blurred intentionally. If you can receive all the benefits citizenship, why naturalize?
The pact would be the latest, but by far the largest, of a series of treaties designed to ensure that people from one country working in another aren't taxed by both nations' social security systems.
The Mexicans argument here is a red haring and based on the false assertion that Mexicans pay Mexican SS taxes while working in the US. They don't and never did.
I thought that Social Security was going broke - which was the reason for a reduction in payments, an increase in taxes, and so forth. And now, we plan to add a further drain on the fund? This is insanity.
I had this posted to 7 or 8 relevant topics and included all the state lists. Evidently the moderator didn't like that and removed almost all the topics. I did add several back in but didn't want to take a chance on this thread getting zotted or banned so I didn't complain to much. I think this issue affects every LEGAL American and needed to be screamed about in every state of the union but someone else disagreed and I don't have the power to change their decision
As for the resturant business, they were avoiding long before the mexicans came to be employed there.
