Pushed by the Mexican government, the Bush administration is working on a Social Security accord that would put tens of thousands of Mexicans onto the Social Security roster and send hundreds of millions of dollars in benefits south of the border.

White House and Mexican government officials say discussions on an agreement to align the Social Security systems of the two countries are informal and preliminary. But excerpts from an internal Social Security Administration memo obtained this month say the agreement "is expected to move forward at an accelerated pace," with the support of both governments, and could be in force by next October.

Two things...

One, the ex-pats that do that are doing it at their own risk. If the host country wants to screw with them, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Second, those ex-pats are spending their accumulated wealth in countries that would otherwise have no opportunity to get those dollars. For the host country, this practice is a winning situation.

Agreed re: fighting it and making our views known. My Reps and Senators, the RNC (Rasicot) and media sources have all been contatcted by me. I am just NOT going to grab for my nitroglycerol at this point...lol. A REASONED wait and see seems more prudent at this point (while making one's views known)...because I have been too many times fooled by these types of reports...to have them evaporate.

I appreciate the original poster of this piece (BallandPowder) making us aware...and asking for activism as opposed to Bush bashing. But you can see what happens with some...emotional tirades are SO much easier than calm, reasoned, THINKING.

" You have no comprehension of revenue losses to the US govt brcause of illegal labor: "

I do? I live in Dallas, Texas. We have a bigger ILLEGAL economy here than most cities LEGAL economy. I worked in Restaurants for 20 years. Most of the employees are ILLEGAL. The construction and landscaping industry is built on ILLEGAL labor. OUR responsibility is to protect OUR borders and OUR tax base. Mexico's responsibility is to theirs.

Illegal labor distorts our entire LEGAL economy, and if Mexico is too stupid to do what it takes to create a middle-class, it is not our responsibility to help them.

If we inflicted a few more "emotional tirades" on our government, we might get more of what we want.

Makes no sense, tastes like a new world order stupid idea, encourages more illegal immigration. When will Bush and others stop, this American soil is already overcome with negative foreign influences. Let the real United States of America awake and take control over their God-given right to preserve our culture and the piece of soil assigned to us - not to all the disenchanted foreigners.

I had a small chuckle in the last election. I went to vote and after my ballot went through the machine, the election judge informed me in a quite concerned manner that there was a "problem" with my ballot. I asked what it was. She replied that I had "undervoted". (Oh horrors!)

I informed her that it was quite intentional. "Oh, she said, I see".

I agree with you on the conservative part. The conservative I vote for will be a law and order conservative not a compassionate conservative.

Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily says it better than me:

" If we are going to save America, it's time to get serious with our borders and immigration policies. If we're going to preserve our way of life, it's time to get serious with our borders and immigration policies. If we're going to take America back, the place to start is with our borders and immigration policies. "

Why isn't this in the Freerepublic headlines or sidebar?

Social Security is one of the most fundamental issues for truly conservative debate. This is a significant development far more serious than 90% of the current "headlines".

I found out about this article elsewhere and came to FR to participate in the discussion. I am very dissapointed to see it buried. (yes, it is buried)

Well, well, well, its looks like our immigration policy has come full circle.

When someone legally immigrates here they are considered a "permanent" resident. There are some categories of non-immigrants who can work here but not many. If a permanent resident works his 40 quarters, pays in and qualifies he should be entitled to his benefit as long as he stays in a "permanent" residence status. If he chooses to abandon his legal residency and return to his home country he should get nothing. What part of "permanent" don't people get.

The only people who should receive SS oversees are US citizens. If the immigrant wanted to receive SS and return home to retire he should have naturalized when he was here.

Illegal aliens should get nothing, I view any money they pay into the system as a partial offset for all the services they received while here.

There is a larger picture in all of this. The concept of US citizenship is being eroded to the point where it is meaningless. The difference between legal and illegal, citizen or alien is being blurred intentionally. If you can receive all the benefits citizenship, why naturalize?

The pact would be the latest, but by far the largest, of a series of treaties designed to ensure that people from one country working in another aren't taxed by both nations' social security systems.

The Mexicans argument here is a red haring and based on the false assertion that Mexicans pay Mexican SS taxes while working in the US. They don't and never did.

I thought that Social Security was going broke - which was the reason for a reduction in payments, an increase in taxes, and so forth. And now, we plan to add a further drain on the fund? This is insanity.

Powder..patch..Ball FIRE!

I had this posted to 7 or 8 relevant topics and included all the state lists. Evidently the moderator didn't like that and removed almost all the topics. I did add several back in but didn't want to take a chance on this thread getting zotted or banned so I didn't complain to much. I think this issue affects every LEGAL American and needed to be screamed about in every state of the union but someone else disagreed and I don't have the power to change their decision

The real place to start is with getting serious about defending rights and respecting the constitution. Without that we are nothing but a large banana republic.

I noticed that you refuse to acknowledge the loss of tax revenue to the US because of the underground economy. You can blame it on the mexicans, but there are a lot of whites who are using the mexicans to avoid.

As for the resturant business, they were avoiding long before the mexicans came to be employed there.

Thanks for posting this article.

Most people call people against illegal immigration a one issue only person. This article proves without a doubt that immigrations encompasses just about everything that is a value to an American.

You can bet this article will go to the AARP.
