NEW YORK (CNN) -- Former President Clinton said Wednesday it is "pretty hypocritical" of Republicans to criticize incoming Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott for stating publicly what he said the GOP does "on the back roads every day."
"How do they think they got a majority in the South anyway?" Clinton told CNN outside a business luncheon he was attending. "I think what they are really upset about is that he made public their strategy."
He added: "They try to suppress black voting, they ran on the Confederate flag in Georgia and South Carolina, and from top to bottom the Republicans supported it."
Clinton's comments were strongly refuted by a Republican spokesman, who called on the former president to "check his facts."
Lott, a Mississippi Republican, has been fighting for his political life since he suggested that the United States would have been better off had it elected Strom Thurmond president on a segregationist ticket in 1948. Lott has since repeatedly apologized.

On further review, I'm assuming you were berating Clinton in the post addressed to me. Sorry about that - it's been so crazy around here I thought you were taking a shot at me. I think we're on the same side on this one - LOTT OUT!!!

I'd like to see Santorum get the position. But I think it might be a surprise choice.....

"During Bill Clinton's tenure as governor of Arkansas, he took no steps to disavow Confederate heritage. Clinton signed a bill in 1987 that designates a star in the Arkansas flag as symbolic of the Confederacy; he also issued a proclamation designating a birthday memorial for Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy; and he made no attempt to overturn the law that sets aside the Saturday before Easter as Confederate Flag Day."Yep. And Je$$e Jack$son$ rent-a-riots were and STILL ARE notably absent from Arkansas.

"...the republicans should hit the airwaves with a vengence..."
Absolutely right. But also, shouldn't FOX be hammering home every hour on the hour how racist Clinton and the Dems really are? Plenty of evidence in the public record to back it up. Why won't FOX help by giving the GOP a forum and really balancing the news?
Many times I think FOX is the media equivalent of a RINO.

Yeah Mr. Clinton, this is not all that different than your party's strategy of race baiting in the last 40 years...
...is no greater a racist than Jesse Jackson. Both will use the outmoded, idiotic, lunatic, idea of race to manipulate ignorant people to voting for their candidates. How dare you tell the truth! Racism is an equal opportunity employer. If the Repubs had some leadership in the Senate, they could win on this issue. I am not calling for Lott's head, but his lack of leadership has put himself in this stew with the media.

James Carville just read a letter on CNN that he wrote to Lott accepting his apology because he said he spoke to John Lewis about it. He said that Lewis convinced him that nothing would ever be done about race relations if we kept up the crusade against Trent Lott.
I'm totally confused because Carville seemed sincere. ???

Let them keep shooting themselves in the foot. First the House then the Senate and then the Presidency. The only thing left of the Democratic Party will be the ninth circut.
Do Your Part; Fire A Liberal Today!!!

Yes, it is confusing, Carville being sincere would be the first time.
But maybe he knows Trent Lott is done for..so he's being generous with his acceptance. There's always a reason.

Chill out.

Clinton who? Didn't there used to be a disgraced former president by that name?
I care what Clinton has to say even less than I care what Barbra Striesand has to say.
To: Mo1
Like I said...I'm totally confused because they have never accepted an apology for anything. This must be a new tactic.

"He said that Lewis convinced him that nothing would ever be done about race relations if we kept up the crusade against Trent Lott"Lewis must have really chewed him out if Carvile is sincere.
IN TRUTH, the Dems have what they want: they have used Lott as the vehicle to damage the Republican party...and they NEED him to remain as majority leader, because Lott has always been a spinless wuss. It's a win-win for them.
Let's surprise them, shall we? Let's keep pounding the Dems for their constant incitement of race hate. Race hate is the tool the Dems use to keep minorities in the victim mindset, enslaved to the Dems' welfare state, and voting for the Dems (who are somehow protecting them by enslaving them)
To: kcvl
This must be a new tactic. BINGO!!!!.. and this more then just getting Lott to stay
Have you listen to them talk lately and what they say ..it use to be all about what was best for the PARTY .. now it's what is best for the COUNTRY ..
They are trying to act like they actually care .. what a load of BS
