Poised to make his case tonight in a Special Prime Time Interview with Ed Gordon on Black Entertainment Cable Television [8PM EST]..
Trent Lott (R-MS) is now facing more calls to replace him as Senate Majority Leaderfrom top republicans
Even if he decides to stop discussing it now, he might be too late.
You're starting another misstatement all over again.
He said he supports AA across the board. Do you even know what that means??
direct quote
Is that a Trent Lott quote? ;-)
Rewarding moderation is a recipe for failure and any reasonable minded person should agree that lowering the bar by implimenting a policy that requires anyone to ignore the accomplishments of one person because of the skin color of another is a racist policy and it should never be supported. This country MUST continue the practice of rewarding excellence, otherwise, what's the use in being the best? The pay is the same!
Want to bet? You will all be saying the same thing about him that you are about Trent Lott when Carville gets finsihed with him.
Of course he went on to say that he believed in affirmative action and that he hired some blacks for his staff. Whoopie, Im sure that went over great. Last I heard something like one or two percent of his staff was black.
a Mississippi Republican, then decried some of the leadership in the South. "There has been immoral leadership in my part of the country for a long time."
Asked by BET anchor Ed Gordon whether he had been a part of that leadership, he said, "Yes, I can't deny that. And I, you know, believe I have changed and I am trying to do a better job.
"But, yes, I am a part of the region and the history that has not always done what it was supposed to have done."
Oh, my god, what an idiot! Trent Lott just told the whole world that he hired people who were not good enough on their own to work for him. Were I a black member of his staff, I would quit tonight!
He is truly a stupid, stupid man.
That is how I interpreted that quote, as well.
Lott must be removed as Majority Leader immediately unless he threatens to leave the Senate...
...in that case, he must remain as Majority Leader.
Jim Jefferds must return to the GOP to boost a fragile majority...
...even if he wants to chair a committee.
Stop talking about race even if you know what you're talking about.
Give the Democrats time to overplay their hand; they will do it.
It looks like Lott has done what the whole Democrat Party failed to do this election cycle...
...he energized the Black base against the GOP.
1 for 65 now. A mail room worker, 5 for 163 from the period 1972 through 1988 when his opponent tried to embarass him with it.
If Lott is only going to have 1 black on his staff, why not a community outreach guy? Just one office worker in Mississippi, who attends functions, conveys Lott's message, not just a mail sorter. Lott's decision of course.
I missed the show .. how did he do??
Is this something new???
I would agree that he energized many Freepers to side with the Dems.
I think we should assume that he will.
"If he gives all the finger, good for him."
I won't be at all surprised if he does. He's proved that he's human.
What will all this then look like in retrospect? Crazy!
You: "You should get a hold of your bad self. Blacks are not a monolith that can be bribed en masse."
The problem is that Lott appears to be actively TRYING to do just that: bribe the black community.
