Lott is too much of a liability to be Majority Leader, but not such a liability we need to sacrifice a majority in the Senate. Sounds like Clinton Speak to me.

Far as I can tell according to my timeline, it was the 5th of December for the celebration. Jackson on Meet the Press complained on Sunday 12/8, and the week of December 9-13 came the drip, drip, drip of indignation from the honored republicans. When did it really become a problem?
Don't misunderstand me. I admire Noonan, Bennet and Malkin~that's why it's so difficult to accept their positions right now, but they're entitled to their opinions and they actually have an outlet to voice their opinions on a wider scale.

The Republicans are morphing into Dems right in front of our eyes. Yes, the democrats got the Pubbies well-trained to sit, bark and scream RACIST on command. Are the republicans going to make another big lurch to the left to prove they aren't racist?

TLB this one has caused many unimaginable bedfellows so to speek. Friends on seperate sides of the issue, rivals forgetting their differences. Never seen anything like it in all my days on such a grand scale and happening so fast. Has to be something major in the works.

I think Lott should just blatently fess up and say he is 100% against segregation but the train of thought he was having making his prior statement was POLITICALLY predjudiced against the black progressive leftist communistic caucus in which the Clinton's have made of the VERY HARD LEFT, democratic party.I agree with Howlin... this post#138 of yours deserves a bump.

I'm just wondering how a Senator Frist, who receives a 96 rating from the ACU, can be so bashed by someone like yourself who supports conservatives.

I'm not a big fan of ACU ratings...they are pretty slanted toward the Republican incumbents. Gunowners of America is more of an outsider type organization for example, and they give Frist a 'D' on Second Amendment issues.
But my primary reasons I already stated. I considered the actions of the Frist-led Senatorial Committee in the recent election cycle as being very much anti-conservative, both in terms of candidate backing and in terms of the message they were pushing.
That to me sends up huge warning signs about what kind of ML he would be, and what we could expect in 2004 as we are choosing our candidates for the Senate.
Does that answer your question. If it doesn't, I'll have to answer it tomorrow sometime...cause I'm going to bed! :-)

Well, he's said he wouldn't resign, hasn't he? How can you possibly want a RACIST RACIST RACIST to remain a United States Senator? You have to make up your mind: either Lott is a RACIST RACIST RACIST or he is not.

I watched him on TV once say that he was for a woman's right to choose. How pro-life is that? You are wrong..Frist never said that. he's pro choice....
Bill First:
Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000) Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999) Voted YES on disallowing overseas military abortions. (May 1999)

Good grief. Karl Rove and W are the two best things to happen to the Republican party and CONSERVATIVES in over a decade. Get a grip. Tom Delay will be the next victim of this sleazy RACIST RACIST RACIST tactic.
The blacks in Houston DESPISE him because of his strenuous opposition to the Metropolitan Transits Authorities $350,000,000 "mass transit" train between the Astrodome and Enron Field or whatever they are calling it now. By Metro's own admission it will solve nothing. A train from Katy or Clear Lake would be useful.
A train between two ballparks serves no one except the ball club owners.
I am going to thank you personally when this same tactic is used on Delay, because it will be.

Pro-life physician Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN) asserted that the partial-birth abortion procedure should be banned "because it is needlessly risky and dangerous for the woman, because it is inhumane and painful to the fetus, because it is absolutely unnecessary and because it is ethically unacceptable."
Stop lying about the man's record.....

Tom Delay is not stupid like Lott is... Which makes Delay a much more desirable target.
If you think you can control this RACIST RACIST RACIST smart-weapon you have invented, you are sadly mistaken.
To: E. Pluribus Unum
You should not be dumping on Rove. He and GWB have a tough decision and are trying to navigate it with dignity.
Think of this. What if a political leader, of either party, one day decided to try and cheer up an old German WWII soldier at his 100th birthday party by saying ...
"Gee, I'm proud to have supported Adolf. And if he had won, this world would have been a better place with a lot less problems."
All hell would break loose overtop of that politician's head, would it not.
Listen, regardless of the distasteful prospect of letting racial politics dictate the US Senate's leaders, the Republican Party simply cannot allow someone like Trent Lott to be the face of the GOP.
I struggled with this all week, as I'm sure most thinking political junkies have.
Lott must go. It is the only way to stop the bleeding.
In fact, when Lott steps down, it will put the onus squarely on the Democrats, highlighting their duplicity in this entire matter.
Just like the old phrase, "God works in mysterious ways." I think this can be applied to politics also and could end up a plus for the GOP.

He and GWB have a tough decision and are trying to navigate it with dignity. Dubya threw gasoline on the fire instead of acting like a leader.
Have you ever heard of separation of powers? The President is the head of the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch is not supposed to insert itself into the affairs of the Legislative Branch. Bush ain't supposed to decide who the Senate majority leader is.
You RACIST RACIST RACIST mongers are simply amazing.
To: 2nd Amendment
Bush, with all of his grovelling gets what? About 8% of the black vote. Missing the point. Lott made his political blunder on the eve of the Louisiana Senate runoff. He helped turn out the black vote for Mary Landrieu. Now, if he is replaced as majority leader and resigns, giving the D governor of Mississippi a chance to name a D to the Senate, that would be going from 51-53 seats in November to 50 in December. Even Jeffords only gave the Ds one seat. And that was after Jeffords voted for the Bush tax cut.
To: Hildy
You know what makes me so mad...the Repubilcans...we, the grass root, worked so hard this past election to get these guys into office, and then in one moment, we're set back an incredible degree. This movement, this party, is bigger than one man. He needs to go, and he needs to go NOW. If he gives up his Senate Seat, then he really is just a closet racist, who only cares about his own personal needs. Screw him.
This is the best post yet on this subject. Says it all. He let us all down. And if he stomps off in protest against losing his leadership post and quits the Senate, he'll be letting us down completely... showing us once and for all he's never had any love for his team... only himself.
