I don't it matters what Republican Black office holders are saying anyway... In 2000 we got 9 percent of the black vote... does anyone think that by forcing Lott out it will get us anymore than that anyway?

Standing on principle is vastly more important than mere political expediency. Segregation is morally repugnant and indefensible. Anyone who believes otherwise does not belong in the leadership of the Republican party.

Republicans can capture the moral high ground and put this to bed once and for all if Republican leaders demand that Lott step down as SML. Otherwise it looks as though he was sucessfully hounded out by the rats and the liberal media and we grudgingly went along.

BTW, listen carefully to the rats. They don't want Lott to step down....now what does that tell you??????

Like I said before when Bush and Powell slammed God and Christians he ended his right to be taken for anything more than a joke.

Nickles never has put himself up for leadership elections without knowing he had the votes.

He ran against Lott for Majority Leader in 1998...and lost.

I just heard some of what J.C. Watts said on Meet the Press this morning. I thought he was rather supportive of Lott.

Another bet, Boy? You said he'd be out this morning, after the morning shows. I'm still waiting.....nothing on the wires...

Well, as long as we're throwing predictions back in people's faces, it was YOU who said the Lott firestorm was dying last Thursday.

Well, it ain't dying... not by a long shot. It seems that the lemming-like George Will, too, has now succumbed to the "left wing-feuled racist guilt trip."< /sarcasm>

Lott's Leadership is toast. It may not be today, but it's only a matter of when.

I always appreciate your posts, BTW. You are the least emotional of anybody on this forum, and, thus, the most clear thinking.

The rest of us are throwing sand at each other and you're figuring out how to build a castle.

Sink, you've stated many times that if Lott is forced to resign from the leadership, he'll resign from the
Senate. That's quite possible, and would be the disaster scenario, as you've also noted.

Suppose his collegues, in a procedurally correct way, hold another ML election, which is won by someone else? Would
that save him enough face, do you think? After all, being a US Senator is not something to be lightly tossed away.

If President Bush comes out and says yes, take a vote, than I can go along with it.

Governor Bush said that clinton was an embarrassment to the country. He also said he would have voted to impeach. I have it on tape. You are dead wrong. The remarks were made on the O'Reilly Factor in 2000. O'Reilly asked him point blank. By the way, do you even respect Bill Bennett? He is on Fox saying that Lott needs to step down.

Is there any evidence, other than media speculation that Lott has threatened to resign from the Senate if removed from his leadership position? I haven't seen anything.

Lott has been a disappointment as Majority leader, but he is presently being raped over what was no more than a meaningless, lighthearted compliment to Thurmon.

Why add the blackmail accusation if not true.

Perhaps a 'temporary' moderate ML for 2 or 4 years might be the best thing that could happen for the GOP. Hold the shaky coalition of conservative, moderate, and liberal GOP Senators together until an election or two can give us a stronger majority that could withstand defections.

Well this gets to the issue of, when is an apology accepted, and when is it not enough? I certainly hope President Bush never has to apologize for anything, and expects to be supported. He is know to expect loyalty, but he hasn't shown any in this case whatsoever.

"If Lott makes it known that he will step down and the GOP railroads him out anyways, all the time, effort and money I have donated to the GOP is thrown out the window."

If you LEFT the Republican party, as you stated in an earlier post, why do you donate and expend time and effort on them?

I surmised that the idea was floated, probably by Lott. Even if he had been responsible for that, there would NEVER be a smoking gun to prove it. Maybe it was a supporter of his. But the idea has been in the press, and it's not there by accident. Just a guess on my part. BTW, Bill Bennett just said that he DOESN'T think Lott is responsible for that rumor. So there.

He could call off his planned "Apology Tour", and assume his place on the back bench of the Senate this afternoon.

LOL. He's made FIVE public apologies so far.
I'm starting to get sick of it already.

I suppose any day now we can expect the mail we receive to be covered with warning stamps, just like ladders, eh?

They didn't think of it? Wow. They didn't "think" of planes hitting the WTC; I wonder who he'll sue over that?
