Hannity.com Frontpage:
"Saying he used "a poor choice of words," Trent Lott spoke with Sean on the newsmakers phoneline at length on December 11th in an exclusive interview. This follows a firestorm of criticism by Liberals and Conservatives alike in reaction to comments made by Lott at Sen Strom Thurman's 100th birthday party."

You say we are (conservatives) being held to a higher standard.....well we should be proud not only of having to do that, but also achieving it.
I can't figure out why we don't strive to be better than the other party. We're getting into the "everybody does it" syndrome.
To: Paul Atreides
No, his idiot mouth and seemingly racist views are haunting him. He needs to go. Getting rid of him will be a bonus, as he is spineless and a deal-maker who sells out conservative principles. I like the sound of "Majority Leader Nickles"

Absolutely! WJC is the "president-in-exile" of the Democratic (Communist) Party, and has been since GWB took the oath. This should always be kept in mind, especially by those who think it's all about Evita.

I would rather suffer the pain of higher expectations than the empty gratidude of lower expectations.

For a while I also thought Lott should go, but now I'm convinced that he should not only stay in office but should remain as majority leader for as long as he wants.
If the U.S. Senate determined that president of the United States was fit to stay in office despite committing multiple felonies while in office, then Lott can do whatever the f#ck he pleases even if it is learned that he used to burn crosses on front lawns all over Mississippi.

Republicans are held to a higher standard and we're getting VERY tired of it. The left has no standards. If everything is relative, there can be no standards. Nothing can be better or worse than any other thing. Multiculturalism is a prime example of this. It you have standards, you introduce judgement. For liberals being judgemental is a cardinal sin.
So, it is not really that there is a different standard, it is that Republicans have a standard and there is nothing wrong with that.

Lott will leave the Senate. Newt quit, Livingston quit, so will Trent.
Senate goes back to 50-50, after Dem Gov. Ronnie Musgrove appoints a DEM successor, who doesn't have to run again until 2006.

They are going back to Lott's college days now. It is fair
game to pull old KKK alumni Byrd. We can attach Biden's
copying someone else's work and Ted Kennedy cheating in college. Let is have some real fun. The name of Mary Jo Kopechne is now
open for discussion.

you still have guys like Hannity trying to defend the context of Lott's remarks I don't see why... So Lott said something stupid. We never hear of any of the stupid things the democraps say on the news ad nauseam. In fact, the democraps defend someone actually DOING something wrong or immoral (as opposed to just saying something that can be considered insensitive) and say "he apologized, let's let it go/move on/nothing to see here."

Hardly. But I would imagine a Majority Leader with some stones would be able to keep McCain on a much shorter leash.Well seeing as Dubya just tightened fuel efficiency standards for SUVs,
maybe he's trying to recruit Jeffords back to the Big Tent so he can assume the position.
To: joesnuffy
What does that have to do with this thread?
To: Saundra Duffy
I can understand your point completely. I feel the same way. I don't want to make THIS the issue he's 'let go' over, just cuz some liberals raised a stink over it.
To: dirtboy
And how is this going to return the Senate to the Dems, sink? When Lott resigns, Ronnie Musgrove appoints a democrat and then Chafee jumps. Voila!

Your 'stupid' label is right on the mark.
Leftist attacks on Lott basically boil down to: "It shows he's truly a racist."
Defenders of Lott basically say: "He's not racist. Yes, it was a stupid comment but you have to take in the context of a 100 year olds' birthday party, Thurmonds strong stance on defence, etc., etc."
This whole argument reminds me of an old joke I heard from my father when I was much younger, and I know that he heard it from someone else...
Little Johnny comes home with a terrible report card, and his father sits him down and delivers a stern rebuke for the horrendous grades. After listening calmly to his father's diatribe, little Johnny says: "Daddy, I've got one question for you. Is my bad performance due to heredity or environment?"
The point is that IT DOESN"T MATTER IF LOTT IS A RACIST OR IF HE'S STUPID. Either way, he must step down as leader because no one wants a stupid leader or a racist leader.

I guess you never suffered from acid reflux. I just keeps coming back, leaving a nasty taste in your mouth and burning the lining in your throat.
Just thought I throw in that little downer. Have a nice day.

Yes, the hypocracy of the left is sickening, but if we excuse Lott, then we're as guilty of hypocracy as they are. Lott said what he said, and it wasn't pretty. If there were some other thing about Thurmond's platform in '48 that Lott was referring to, he hasn't said, so I doubt that explanation.
We're held to a higher standard, but I would like to think that we hold ourselves to a higher standard. Let the left showcase their hypocracy. Here's an opportunity for the Republicans to show this nation that we are worthy of that higher standard.
