Sean Hannity is gonna hang himself with this Lott issue.
Sean Hannity's Website ^

Hannity.com Frontpage:

"Saying he used "a poor choice of words," Trent Lott spoke with Sean on the newsmakers phoneline at length on December 11th in an exclusive interview. This follows a firestorm of criticism by Liberals and Conservatives alike in reaction to comments made by Lott at Sen Strom Thurman's 100th birthday party."

He made a statement that was at best extremely naive and stupid and at worst, much worse. This, combined with a longstanding well-proven tradition of caving to the Dems on every issue, one wonders if it isn't a calculated ploy to make himself "issue du jour" as some "opponent" of the Dems when in fact he is their ally.

Harry S Truman reportedly joined the Klan for a short time in 1922, also, his defenders contend, for political reasons. Truman reportedly sought Klan backing in his race for a judgeship in Jackson County, Missouri. In Hooded Americanism: The First Century of the Ku Klux Klan, 1865-1965, author David M. Chalmers writes: "Truman's own story was that when he was told to promise not to give any jobs to Catholics he angrily withdrew and got his money back." Another version cited by Chalmers "was that the future President did go through with his initiation although he was never an active member." Active Klansman or not, Harry Truman's nearly lifelong record of personal racism is documented by his own published and unpublished letters, oral histories, and other documents on file at the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri. Dr. William Leuchtenburg, president of the American Historical Association and a professor at the University of North Carolina, is writing a book about our 33rd president. During his research, Leuchtenburg found that in 1911 Truman (who was 27) wrote to his future wife, Bess: "I think one man is just as good as another so long as he's honest and decent and not a nigger or a Chinaman. Uncle Will [probably Wfiliam Yount, the brother of Truman's mother] says that the Lord made a white man from dust, a nigger from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman." Truman continued: "[I] am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, yellow men in Asia and white men in Europe and America." According to Professor Leuchtenburg, Truman was the first president since Reconstruction to make civil rights a federal priority. Yet he continued to use racial slurs throughout most of his life.

Harry Truman, as President, later desegregated the armed services to black men. I served with some of the finest.

Redemption is a basic tenet of Christianity. Muckraking from 40 years ago isn't.

Can you imagine if the GOP replaced Lott with strong conservative leadership? These RINO's will hop over into Daschles sandbox faster than you can say Jim Jeffords!

I don't think so.

Perfectly stated.

I, for one, am getting a little tired of Hannity's moralizing and self-righteousness. He's even more annoying than that hypocrite Bill Bennett. Sometimes I wish Hannity would just shut the heck up! I particularly didn't like the way he bullied Sela Ward into telling him what her views on "moral issues" were. She should've told him to take a flying leap!

He's nothing but a shill for the Republican Party and misrepresents the facts. He tried to stand the Enron mess on its head by saying that Lieberman once headed a group that took something like $200,000 from Enron, Citibank, and some other corporations. What he left out was that Enron only gave like $2,000.

Now Hannity is trying to compare Clinton's praise for Fulbright with Lott's praise for Thurmond. What he conveniently leaves out is that Fulbright is mostly known for the Fulbright Scholarship. By contrast, Thurmond known only for having run an insurgent presidential campaign based on one issue and one issue only: segregation. Hannity knows this, but he's such a shill that he'll never admit it.

We should encourage Sharpton.

Hey! This could be the vehicle that Sharpton could ride all the way to the RAT nomination!

Hehehe....

Quit getting so excited about nothing. Watch how this plays out, the RATS are sticking their foots in their mouths and there is a big picture here that I will not mention that is also playing out quite nicely.

If you don't see this as analagous you should get an MRI.

Dems have one goal in mind now, and that is not just having Lott step down as ML but resign entirely and have the Dem governor in MS appoint a Democrat, which would then throw back the Senate to the Dems.

Nonsense. The Dems want Lott to stay. Every single congress critter or senate candidate will run against Trent Lott. They will propose a litmus test on their republican opponent about their support of Trent Lott.

In 2004, if Lott stays... every Republican will be asked if they support him for Majority Leader. If he is gone, the issue dies for the most part.

If you asked Carville in his heart of hearts, he would rather have a wounded Trent Lott then anything else in the world.

Excellent post-now I am leaning towards your viewpoint-looked at from your broad perspective-to can Lott would be devastating. Like Sean-I, too, am tired of conservatives being held to a higher standard-take Newt or Livingston as recent proof when held against clinton's lawless activities.

Hannity is the only person who ain't Chickenning out on the issue. Bush on the otherhand, has been taking lessons from Putin, using the enemys momentum (i.e. dems) to collapse on their own crapulance. Bravo Bushie.

The Democrats are going to use the issue as mentioned on another thread to try to win back the senate. This is their ace in the pie so they believe. And to get back the power they want. They are probably salivating. The article from Time magazine is another clinch and probably will be played all over. We shall see how this is played out because I don't think it will go away.

Yes, democrats were and are bigots. So what. Does that excuse Republicans when they are bigots? Of course not.

Yes, the left is being hypocritical. That's what they do. That doesn't make what Lott said any less wrong.

I don't get it. Democrats who have a KKK senator in their ranks call Lott a bigot and we should all just roll over? What exactly are we allowed to say by the leftist news media and their party, the democrats?? Their allies are allowed to be homegrown terrorists like bedsheet-wearing Robert Byrd and racists like Jessie 'Hymie Town' Jackson, just to name a few. So Lott tries to say something nice to a hundred year old friend and he should be drug out of the senate and lynched by the leftist news media and their brownshirt allies in the democratic party and you agree with that???

"Take them for granted"....Thats wishful thinking on your part, boy. We Southerners may not vote for the Dims but there's not one damn thing to keep us from staying home. I wish Lott would resign from the Senate and Chafee would jump ship. That might be a good lesson to the "conservatives" in this country who would rather eat their own than fight the Socialists.

Even worse if Lott resigns from the Senate

Doesn't everybody realize that this could happen SOOOOO easily? When the Dems can't win elections, they seduce the intellect-challenged to switch, handing power to them; and when the pubbies gain control the legitimate way (Thru ELECTIONS), they trump up outrage over some ambiguous comments, causing everyone to turn on Lott, effectively FORCING him to resign his seat. Then we're back to a Dem appointing a Democrap and shifting the balance illegally AGAIN!!!!
