***REV. PETERSON TO SENATOR LOTT: “DON’T GIVE IN TO RACIST DEMOCRATS!***
BOND (Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny) ^ | 12-12-02 | Ermias Alemayehu

Posted on 12/12/2002 10:26:02 AM PST by NewDestiny

“As the head of a nationally recognized nonprofit black organization BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny, my organization and I accept Senator Trent Lott’s apology regarding his remarks at Senator Strom Thurmond’s birthday celebration. I encourage the Senator to not give into the demands of racists who want to keep blacks on the Democratic plantation.

Sen. Lott has released a statement and appeared on national media to apologize for his statements. He has explained his statement and the context in which it was made—enough is enough!

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters, and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) are hypocrites and they are the real racists.

Jackson has not apologized for his ‘Hymie’ town comments, nor for his forty years of immoral leadership; Sharpton has never apologized for his role in the Tawana Brawley disgrace; members of the Congressional Black Caucus have never asked fellow Democrat Sen. Robert Byrd to step down for using the word ‘nigger’ twice on national television.

Black and white Democrats alike who continue to demand that he [Lott] step down are doing so only for political reasons. And Republicans who fail to support him are displaying cowardice. Lott should not step down; he should not offer any more apologies—this matter is done! We should judge people based on their hearts and actions, and unlike many of his detractors, Trent Lott has no history of being a racist.”

Peterson is absolutely right; many Dems have done far worse, and I suspect are still much more racist that Republicans. The problem is that the media is on the Dem side, and this won't go away.

I don't think Lott should resign as senator - but it's time for somebody new as majority leader.

I think Rev Peterson is right again.

Too bad Bush can't recognize the wisdom, and stand up to these (lest we EVER forget) lock-step Clinton apologizers..

Jesse is right. It bothers me when I hear conservatives and liberals calling for Lott's resignation. What Lott said has been distorted and blown way out of proportion. This is just another play from the democrats playbook. After they get Lott they will be looking for the next republican to destroy with their politics of personnal destruction.

I think those who can merely throw insults at those who disagree with them are the real cowards.

Peterson is not a political strategist. He's just a guy who hates race baiters.

Unfortunately Lott gave the race baiters all the ammunition they need to attack us going into the next election. Lott may not be a stupid racist, but he is STUPID. We don't need an IDIOT as Senate Majority leader.

The race baiters will call for his resignation as Senate Majority leader, but secretly they are all praying he will still have that post in November of 2004. The only way to hit the race baiters where it hurts is to voluntarily remove the bait from their hands. Lott should admit he's an idiot and a liability and step down as leader. But of course it would take a REAL MAN to do something that might actually benefit the party rather than himself.

Well, yellow me! Republicans who fail to call for his resignation are displaying exactly the same blind loyalty to 'our side' that Clintonistas did.

I strongly disagree with your analysis. Southern Heritage issues delivered the Congress and several state legislatures down South to the GOP.

They want Lott to step down to nullify Southern Heritage as a campaign issue.

>>>I encourage the Senator to not give into the demands of racists who want to keep blacks on the Democratic plantation.

The Rev.Peterson is correct. Trent Lott should not step down. PresBushes remarks in Philidelphia today, slamming SenLott, were a total outrage and clearly was an attempt to pander to the liberal establishment, especially, America's black minority. Black America remains in the warm and cozy pocket of liberal socialism and will continue to vote for Democarts in overwhelming numbers.

This is politcal correctness and race baiting carried to the extreme. This isn't what winning the last election was all about. As a conservative, I won't condone the liberal elites making decisions for the Republican Party. If McConnell, Santorum, Nichols or Frist want to challenge Lott for the Majority Leadershipo position, okay. But it shouldn't happen because the liberal establishment has decided this is a good issue to parade before the American public. By blowing a minor incident into a federal case, the libdems are hoping to gain significant political capital and if Republicans allow Lott to be crucified, they will be sanctioning the actions of the liberal establishment.

Irrelevant. The argument that if Lott steps down it will embolden the leftists falls flat with me due to the fact that they are already as bold and audacious as imaginable. If he stays, they will act the same as if he goes.

He should go because he frequently distracts from our agenda while not doing much to advance it.

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.
