I'm no Trent Lott apologist, but he is right about one thing, if we had elected Strom Thurmond back in 1948 America would have been much better off.

Boy, you'd better watch out saying things like that around here. Next thing you know, it will be wrong to have supported Barry Goldwater, since he voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Then you're REALLY going to get it!

Most Freepers are not able to understand that Thurmond was 500 times better a choice than Truman or Milquetoast Dewey or the Commie Wallace. Nor can they grasp that Lott was not evil for squelching a trial of Clinton which would have ended in abysmal failure for the Republicans. Who cares. The RATS are looking for an easy way to tip the balance of the Senate back into their hands. Lott should tell them to piss off. If the RATS want his seat, they can run a candidate against him next time he is up for election.

Whoa, we just want him to resign as majority leader, he doesn't have to give up his seat in the Senate. If the good people of Missouri want to elect him, that's their business. But he shouldn't be representing the national party, if he's going to act like this.

Segregation was accepted in the south when Thurmond championed it. And he later personally recanted his views, which many of our founders never did regarding slavery.

I can see that by the hysteria over his innocuous comments. And given the fact that liberals are on the prowl 24 hours a day looking for a statement they can twist into an allegation of racism, how do you propose we appease them? The Congressional Black Caucus considers anti-crime bills and tax cuts to be racist.
