Reading the Crucible is a good idea, whether or not McCarthy ended up being correct in some of his accusations.

Tell your English teacher to teach English and to leave his personal viewpoints for another time and place.

First of all let your parents know what is being taught there. Second get the parents of all students who want a change go together to the school board and demand changes. Also, get as much help as possible from radio and news articles. You could also, peaceably, march and protest the teachings of the left wing liberal, anti-Americans.

Perhaps, rather than silencing him, it would be better to out-think him. Read Michael Medved's latest column for tips on countering arguments against war with Iraq.

Suggest to the teacher that literature be read that are see both sides of war (patriotic duty v. death). Mark Twain could be read, as I believe besides writing about the civil war, he was active helping the wounded (if memory serves correctly, although the many wounded was difficult for him to see, he saw the patriotism). If this suggestion does not work, go to your principal, telling him/her you want this done. If that doesn't work, have your parents go with you and speak to teacher and principal, then to the School Board Superintendent....for starters. Do some research (if you haven't already) on authors who see the need re patriotic duty, or even moral duty, to prevent the atrocities being done on innocents (i.e., Saddam Hussein on his own people, killing babies).

Pass the class with excellent marks, & move on. You will graduate soon, and leave grade school behind forever. Your liberal teacher, however, is stuck there.

One should pick their fights.

First thing you need to do is find out what unit he was in, when he served, where he served, what his rank was and what his serial number was.

Most leftist "Vietnam vets" never served. It would undermine his credibility were he lying about this.

Second, why is he blaming Nixon when liberal, Great Society-creating President Johnson escalated our intervention in Vietnam?

Third, isn't he aware that the Venona documents proved that McCarthy was right and that Alger Hiss was a Communist spy?

Rather than getting him kicked out, you should get him reprimanded by his bosses (that is, by your parents the taxpayers) for politicizing an English class.

ABout 'The Crucible' someone much wiser than I, I think Elia Kazan, remarked 'witches didn't exist but communists did' hence hunting commies was legit as they were traitors. If this fellow is a VN vet ask him under whos watch did US troop strngth grow from a few hundred to a half million (hint JFK and LBJ) so who created 'Nixon's War'?

Why should you be able to simply silence those with whom you disagree? Sharpen your debating skill and challenge the teacher. That is what I did twenty-five years ago to my liberal English teacher.

Also, ask him if he was against Clinton's bombing of Iraq.

If he wasn't against them then, then ask why he's against it now.

Oh by the way, you should have told him that by analyzing the anti-war screed, you were analyzing fiction.

I like ken5050's idea. Ask him for a copy of DD214 (that's the official military discharge paper).

Ouch! This looks like a problem for your parents to tackle and not you because of your need for a passing grade from this socialist wacko.

I say this because I tried the same thing with a teacher and after I did, she made my life a living hell.

If you decide to be proactive, my suggestion would be for you to bone up on expected lessons, and confront him with hard facts every time he opens his mouth with that crap.

I applaud you for having the guts (not to mention the BRAINS) to see his actions for what they are and I wish you all the luck in the world!

(You might also use this as an opportunity to engage fellow students - OFF CAMPUS - in order to shoot down his influence on them as well. This would be an excellent chance to give them good historical information while you discuss his opinions with them.)

And when a liberal kid wants a conservative teacher kicked out of school will you support the kid's effort or do you only want the liberal view banished from your school. What are you going to do when you go to college and liberal professors that have tenure make their viewpoints known? Will you cause a big stink and cry or will you challenge the professor and thereby expand your own knowledge?
