Did you see voter fraud and what is the talk about exit polling and the possible outcome?

Well, there is an active one at 2290 right now (my post) related to Ted Maher. This one's pretty close, pretty surprising, too, I must say.

I true Republican would defend Reagan's honour. Particularly..him being a sick man. It was left to an English man to do it today.

Exactly when today was Ronald Reagan's honor questioned?

I was disappointed in you J.

Nevertheless, RR would never be.

Your list sums up the reasons for tonight's disgraceful GOP losses. But, I would like to add one more factor to your list. It would be the weather. Today in LA, the weather was sunny but chilly. This does not depress 'RAT turnout as much as rain. On Nov. 5th, the Deep South was covered with rain showers. In fact, New Orleans had thunderstorms on that day. This may have depressed African-American turnout to enable Southern Pubbies like Perdue, Chambliss, Sanford, Graham, & Dole to win their races.

I have never bothered to try to figure out why, but bad weather in the south helps Republicans only in Texas and Louisiana. In the rest of the south it helps Democrats.

Anywhere in Kalifornistan that resembles a conservative area?

About 40 miles north of Sacramento. Sutter County has a 65% Republican voter registration even with all the rice farmers around here.

Where was Karl Rove when Jeffords decided to bolt? Are you suggesting Rove is some kind of a hitman. Maine has always been a Democratic state and more so now that the state legislature and governor's mansion when to the Democrats. Prime time for Snowe and Collins to make a move.

Landrieu's reasons for victory

1. She outworked her opponent
2. Like most Rats she found an issue that her state cared about and slammed her opponent on it. Sugar in this case
3. Said she supported a popular president
4. The weather and Donna Brazile, turnout was exactly the same as on Nov 5th and Dec 7th. I'm sure nobody expected that even though weather wasn't that good on Nov 5th.
Why does Ralph Reed need three weeks when Donna can do it in a couple of days?
5. Economic Data had to be released yesterday unfortunately, whether Bush fired O'Neill and Lindsay that would have been the big story yesterday.

African-Americans (why aren't they American Africans - are they Afrians first and foremost?) Anyway - mark this - they will always be a writeoff group for Repulicans. They have no idea what republicanism is. Chasing them is wasted effort. Look for smarter groups to expand the tent.
Intelligent blacks who have crossed over don't even call themselves African-Americans, and they vote as though they are individuals - not tribal voters. And they are treated that way. But elections are about building coalitions, and this group is so gone. Racism this - racism that - racism on and on and on and on. Shut the HELL up.

Perhaps this link will help. It is a map of the 2002 race for Governor of California. You will see that most of California consists of areas that voted for Bill Simon. Many areas at a 60% clip. In fact, of the few areas that Gay Davis won, in some he didn't even manage to win a majority (thanks to the Greep Party, but still)http://vote2002.ss.ca.gov/Returns/gov/mapB021121093918.gif

If conservative candidates are to win close elections, then they need to adopt "knock & drag" voter turnout techniques like the liberals have.

No need to be ashamed. The parish-by-parish breakdown shows that except for Orleans Parish where Landrieu won by a preposterous 80,000 votes, Terrell gave Landrieu a run for her money.

Maybe this has been said before, but I don't have time to read 2,000+ posts so here goes...

Most people are simply not as dogmatic on the abortion issue as many posters here are. Landreau's position of banning partial birth and cloning is acceptable to most, even in LA I gather. She's no Patricia Ireland and to make abortion such a prominent issue was a mistake. Most people are practical and realize that the majority do not want abortions banned completely, and even those that do know that the best possible scenario is overturning Roe v. Wade which will keep it legal in the majority of states. This is NOT the main issue on most people's minds. I would vote for pro-choice Rudy over any Dem any day. Suzie even had him campaign with her. Banning abortion is not the overriding concern these days, even in LA.

What Suzie should have done was to stress the discrimination that pro-life judicial candidates are up against in the Senate and highlighted the defeats of Pickering, Owens, and Mary's vote against Shedd. Even those that agree mostly with Mary's stand on abortion (like myself) are disgusted with the treatment of judicial nominees and the lobbying of groups like Ralph Neas's.

Suzie should have followd Saxby's example and stressed Mary's oppostion to Homeland Security until her vote no longer mattered. She should have made a bigger issue of the Boy Scouts. She should have laughed out loud harder and more often at Mary's so-called influence in the minority on the Appropriations Committee. She should have reminded people of the larger tax cut that Zell Miller supported and Mary didn't. And what exactly is Mary's position on reparations for slavery? All Rat candidates should have to reveal this.

In short, all this attention on abortion against a woman with a practical position on the issue is not the way to go. There was just too much emphasis there. I wouldn't have voted for Mary for a myriad of reasons, abortion not being one.

I wish the Republican party would stop making people that are not 100% pro-life feel like outcasts. I am conservative right down the line except on this issue. This is one that I agree with Clinton's rhetoric on, (though of course they weren't his true beliefs). We need to keep it safe, legal (in the first tri-mester due to practical reasons), and RARE. At lesst until hearts and minds are changed. Using this issue as a blugeon is not good politics in most areas. There are many more important issues that affect people's day to day lives. If Suzie would have stressed those more and abortion less she would have won.

Let the fames begin!!!

You sound surprised. Breaux and Landrieu are in the same party. Who did you expect Breaux to back, Terrell? That's like expecting Bush to come here and campaign for Landrieu.

Errrrr, please excuse my insolence, but if you didn't read all 2000 posts, how do you know how that "many" posters were "dogmatic" on abortion?

You're not a seminar poster by any chance, are you?

The voters of Louisiana rewarded the hypocritical "Catholic" Mary Landrieu by returning her to the US Senate. The party of abortion, defense weakness, and trial lawyers claims a victory. The win was jiggered by references to a vague sugar deal with Mexico. The consumers of the rest of the country might continue to be gouged by inflated prices for all products containing sugar. But, they might not be. The Republican Congress can fix this egregious inequity. The bottomline - Louisiana gets Mary and the rest of the country gets cheap sugar.
