Tell us how crowded/not crowded it was when you went to vote!

Did you see voter fraud and what is the talk about exit polling and the possible outcome?

Also didn't Lott tell her that she was losing her Committe seat. The one she bragged about to the people of Louisiana where she could fight for funds for her state. I STILL believe there was cheating involved and just enough to turn this. I do believe deep down that Terrell REALLY won. Landrieu stole the first election by cheating why not this one too. Something DRASTIC must be done about Democratic voter fraud. Even if it means armed guards at the voting booths and 3 pieces of ID> one with a picture. I am sad but I am also MAD.

There is nothing that Bush can do to Foster (He leaves office early in 2004 -- is a very wealthy man who likes to hunt and fish and loves LA), Cooksey (He will resume his practice of medicine in Monroe.)and Holloway (He runs a tree nursery in the little hamlet of Forest Hill.) None of them have political futures. Holloway will try to run so long as he can get his name on a ballot, but he won't be able to do much in 2004 until he improves his speaking style, sticks to his philosophical standard, and catches up with the times. There is no way that Bush can retaliate as I see it. The GOP will be lucky to have the most unknown candidate on the ballot in 2004 against "General" Breaux. The GOP future in LA is as always very bleak. But maybe political lightning will yet strike even in LA.

I think you nailed it Julie. I would just add one thing. Each of these dumb, yes dumb people were paid something to get off their duffs and go and vote otherwise they wouldn't have.

David Duke almost won statewide office and Bob Livingston's old seat. I think the party, in the black community, is still percieved as the party of David Duke. If we are going to win anything statewide here, we are going to have to start picking up black votes. I just don't have any suggestions to go about it.

Landrieu as veep runningmate in 2004? Fat chance, and I don't mean because of her weight. Landrieu voted for Bush's tax cut, the tort reform provision in the Homeland Security bill, and a ban on partial-birth abortions. Even if she doesn't believe in all of that, NARAL refused to support her this time around and will probably veto her as a runningmate, just as it vetoed Evan Bayh in 2000.

You have stated common sense. This thread, starting around 9pm became negative and wah wah. Many of the worst offenders were normally positive, upbeat and inciteful. I don't know what happens to good conservative republicans sometimes, but they become like a depression spreading disease. Remember the walking around money, and the number of demmies over pubbies, and also that Louisiana is the most corrupt state in the union. Feel good that it was close, and we gave it a good fight. You seem to be one of the few on this thread not on your belly wallowing in pity party comments. Thank you.....On to 2004 hopefully with fewer complainers, and more broken glassers.

Trent did nothing to help Woody Jenkins contest Landrieu's last stolen election. What makes you think he could do anything now when Woody was just 6,000 votes behind, not the 40,000 or so that Terrell is trailing? And the GOP would not even investigate fraud in SD -- maybe they are afraid of angering George McGovern?

You're right. This is a loss, but a minor one. It happens.

I respectfully, and wholeheartedly disagree.
It is not a minor loss when an advocate of conservative values & ethics loses. It means even more work needs to be done.
And it just doesn't happen. There are reasons why this loss occurred. To merely brush it aside as some nuance of the Louisiana electorate, or that state being a democratic stronghold is not only wrong, it does us no good in embarking on a new campaign to win the voters' confidence.

I may not be as sophisticated & adapted to the modern ways as you all, but I do know that solving a problem, not making excuses, is the only path that will enable a person to reach their goal.

Mrs. Terrell was an outstanding candidate. But I fear she is going to now be summarily displaced, instead of encouraged.

Agreed. It could be really, really bad in California in 2004. Same day voter registration will be available then. The GOP needs to get on top of this and FAST!

The GOP didn't investigate the OBVIOUS voting fraud in South Dakota because Thune thinks he can win a seat in '04. But that assumes that Daschle will retire. My guess is that Thune will have to take some token job in the administration. Maybe he could be a deputy assistant park ranger.

I guess Mary was right when she threatened Suzanne and told her "This is your last campaign!" LA Democrats know what is going to happen before it happens!

I am not sure middle class blacks in Louisiana would fill more than a couple of precincts. The state is backward economically. The GOP isn't going to find votes there. And as the state becomes more black, this state will become rather reliably Democrat.

What I don't understand, Holden, is why in the world anyone thinks Daschle will retire in 2004? He is younger than Breaux. And I have heard nothing about Breaux contemplating retirement. George McGovern did NOT retire. He was voted out when Reagan was elected president.

Wouldn't you think, Torie, that most of the middle-class blacks in LA would be employees of the U.S. government?

Well you could move into Sinkspur's neighborhood perhaps. Or next door to Utah Girl in Provo, or next door to Rowdee in Idaho (get sound proofed windows), or if you were on Edwin Edward's Christmas card list, and have the bucks, you could move next door to Dick Cheney in Jackson Hole.

Folks,

Don't feel so bad. There were many things going against us, incl. but not limited to demographics, history (no GOP Senator in more than 120 yrs), Breaux's popularity, Terrell's lack of name recognition statewide, and so on. The bright side is the GOP congressional delegation will be less likely to be arrogant and make the mistakes made in 1995-1996. They will be on their toes, and will try harder to win. I sense that we are happy to sit on a lead, whereas they are more hungry to win. We need to keep that in mind. We will never be able to incite voting blocks with the same kind of passion that they do (unless against Clintoons), so despite all these odds, we did well.
