BANDERA, Texas (Reuters) - A jury has handed a life prison sentence to a Texas man who shot and killed a longtime friend he accused of drinking the last beer in his refrigerator.
Jurors deliberated for less than two hours on Thursday before passing the sentence on Steven Brasher, 42, for the murder of Willie Lawson, 39, on November 5 last year.
"There was only two beers left, so I took one, and I told Willie not to take my last beer," Brasher said in a taped statement that was played during the trial.
Testimony showed Brasher shot Lawson in the head with a pistol after the two began arguing over the missing beer. Brasher maintained the shooting was an accident.

Gosh, thanks for the article. I didn't even know this was illegal down here.Yup, the man "needed Killin". LOL

Besides I don't see a problem here.....we have that "he needed killin" law still on the books somewhere. Wow ! Who on earth would take a mans last beer. In Texas your supposed to give your last beer to your guest anyway. Hospitality gone beserk evidently !
And Texasproud is right on locking up the pistolas when we break out the cervesa's. It's near impossible to prime into a M112 block of C-4 with a gun "and" a beer in yer hand !
Stay Safe !

No living soul is going to take my last beer either.

Hold muh ..., hey wait a minute, that's the last one,
d@mmit!
Honest officer we was just takin' turns plinkin cans, and the dern fool went and grabbed that can and started drinkin it, and before I could take my aim off, the blasted gun just plain went off. I did score a perfect center shot on the can - and on his head.
Another alcohol-related death.

He dodged the death penalty in Texas over killing his best friend for such a dumb reason? Boil him slowly over several days.

You guys don't speak Texan....He drew a line. Says Wildbill to a native Texan who learned how to say "Remember the Alamo" before he learned to recite the Pledge of Allegience. This idiot aint Col. Travis, and the article doesn't mention anything other than the "don't drink that last beer" comment.
If he had told his friend that drinking the last beer would result in his getting shot, or even having his butt stomped, then I would agree with you that he drew a line. But the article doesn't mention that.
To: wildbill
See post 50 on this thread for a good example of drawing a line.

Texas has become Politically Correct when a man can't exercise his 2nd amendment rights to protect his most precious private property, his last beer, in his fridge and in his castle.

For those who don't know BTD, he's a home brewer extraordinaire. I would probably shoot someone if they took the last one of his home brews from me!

Celis went out of business I think. I can say for sure they are no longer in the building where they had a brewery in norteast Austin. Celis was bought out by Miller around the time of the Y2K changeover, and I understand has the label and equipment for sale to any interested regional buyers.
I might have withstood that disappointment, but around March of this year Austin's Barbecue in Dallas closed its doors for the last time, after a half-century of fixing the best ol' Texas barbecue I've had the good fortune to run across.
Sigh. Next thing I suppose we'll hear that they've started letting Mexicans just walk across the border....

In the right mood, I think I could kill or maim over my last cigar.....especially if it were a La Gloria or a Bolivar.
Guns and alcohol can be a problematic mix. My deer camp does not allow drinking which suits me fine since I don't drink. I have nothing against drinking and enjoy the taste of good beer and wine etc but I just get sleepy when I drink.
My only intoxicant these days aside from the aforementioned cigars is my wife's "mojo". I'm a hapless addict in that respect.

No, but it sounds familiar. I might have had one, or two. I do know of another 'Pecan Street Lager' that is brewed in Austin, and it is my favorite all time. You can get it in the little store around a woodstove in Luckenbach as well. My favorite easy-to-find beer is 'Fat Tire'.
