Where's your brain? Did you not see what happened September 11? Do you really think SADdam isn't working hard to get for himself nukes? Do you not believe SADdam that he's trying to get nukes? Do you truly "think" SADdam, who declares his hatred for you that he won't nuke you and yours when he DOES get his little nukes?

Wherever you parked that wee brain, hunt it up. You're going to need it someday.

And, there is a theory--maybe tinhat, maybe not--that Iraq was involved in OKC.

I think Bush wants to strike Iraq and take out Saddam because he believes a viable threat exists to us and that important region as long as Saddam stands.

You aren't going to win anyone to your side by insulting them. Methinks flame wars are a form of entertainment for you.

Tolkien's point is more complicated. Yes, Tolkien (and CS Lewis) felt the war was necessary. This is made clear in his letters when he lambasts Hitler and refuses to condemn the jews.

Britain forged another ring, there labour parties drift towards socialism. Britain and the west started acting more and more like the enemies they tried to fight against.

Tolkiens point then was dead on. The West was drifting more and more towards socialism. Socialism was power. Power only leads towards oppression.

Instead of destroying the ring, the power of collectivism, we embraced it. In that respect the west was like Boromir.

Tolkien hated socialism, he hated big government, and he hated materialism. He was a committed conservative and I believe would have supported the war on radical islam.

I think Tolkien makes this point clear when he contrasts Faramir with Boromir. Boromir wanted to use the power of the ring against Sauron like many in the west. Faramir realized that the ring was evil, that power was evil and it must be destroyed.

Tolkien was not anti-war as he was simply pointing out that we were heading down the same dark path that led Russia and Germany towards oppression.

You are right about flame wars. I, too, got carried away. Rather, I carried myself away. He's obviously a little tetched, so must ignore him.

>>Has anyone heard from Brittany Spears yet?

At least the pictures are better!<<

>On that last thought, some Freeper(ette)s may not agree with you.

;^)

You are, of course very right. I should have gone for the Baywatch model of decency! Eye Candy for everyone!

I was of course trying to deal with the heartbreaking conspiracy that Al Gore was eloquently airing, "Why is the media keeping silent on Brittany's opinion about the war?" You don't see it on Fox, or any of Rupert Murdock's vast rightwing network. And the Brittany "coverup" (even saying it is tough) has everyone on pins and needles. When will her statement be released? And why has it taken so long to get "coverage"?

But you are absolutely right, we need to think of freepers and freeperettes! Any Baywatch pictures would be appreciated. Hey, I think Anne Coulter would be nice too!

Thanks AnnaZ, I needed the sensitivity training, and I hope it meets with your approval.

Anne Coulter...Baywatch...Freepers ho...

"You know, Viggo may not realize it, but that oil is of no value to "evil corporations" except that there is demand for it from ordinary citizens like himself. The corporate need for oil is nothing more than a reflection of the real need, which comes from ourselves."

Excellent point...and the US oil companies have not only made the lifestyle Veggo enjoys possible, they have done it more efficiently than any other nation could have, keeping the cost far below what it could be.

The Democratic Socialists are always ranting about the evil "Big Business", but not only does supply and demand apply across the board for products in the way you describe, but who else but huge corporations can possibly meet the increasingly outrageous demands placed of their beloved labor unions, and still manage to remain in business???

of all the actors & actresses I've met and spent time with, I've never met even ONE who didn't seem kind of scary and weird in one way or another.

In the middle ages, actors were not allowed to be buried in church cemeteries...

Do you seriously believe that Hussein represents any threat to the United States if we stay out of Iraq?

Yes.

So I'm guessing you would like to live in a world where everyone believes the same way you do....hmmmmmmmm

By the way, almost every single one of thoese descriptions you posted meets the description of someone I know and they are the complete opposite of what you describe. I particularly don't appreciate the lesbian description, and no, it's not because I'm a lesbian. =P

The Democratic Socialists are always ranting about the evil "Big Business"

If they get rid of business, I don't know where socialists think they will get the wealth from that they want to "redistribute." Socialism is really a parasite that feeds on capitalism.

I have a leftist friend that says he hates corporations. Meanwhile the guy is a car nut, he loves cars...don't know exactly where he thinks cars come from.

Corporations do bad stuff sometimes, but can you imagine America without them?

Heh... I feel I must post this:

Prisoners Of Their Hairdos

Prisoners Of Their Hairdos
Words and Music by Christine Lavin/Flip-A-Jig
Tunes ASCAP Copyright 1991 Rounder Records

What do
 Crystal Gayle
  Dorothy Hamill
   Don King
    Lyle Lovett
and Gloria Steinem have in common

They are Prisoners of Their Hairdos
Prisoners of Their Hair
If they changed the way they combed their hair
They'd never be recognized anywhere
They're prisoners

What do
 Stevie Nicks
  Leon Redbone
   Pee Wee Herman
    Tom Wolfe
and Pope John Paul have in common

They are prisoners of their wardrobes
Prisoners of their clothes
If they changed the outfits that they wear
Nobody would stop and stare
They're prisoners

It's a little tragic, it's a little weird
ZZ Top are prisoners of their beards
Imagine them weightless in outerspace
Beards and shades flyin' all over the place

Don't worry, that'll never happen, except maybe in a music video

There's a very fine line
Between a groove and rut
Fine line between eccentrics
And people who are just plain nuts
Aw but why should I concern myself
With such superficial fare
'Cause I'm a prisoner of these stupid thoughts
Which is worse than being a prisoner of my haaaaair do

I wonder if Crystal Gayle has ever had a bad dream about being trapped with Ted Koppel,
and Mary Travers. Being chased by a wild pack of sissors toward a swimming pool filled with
Nair. Oh my gawd what a nightmare that would be for Crystal Gayle.
Wake up Crystal Gayle.
Wake up.

Oh no, here comes Dolly Parton. What is she doing in this song?
She's only a prisoner of a wig.
Get out of here Dolly, you don't belong.
No offense.

Oh my goodness! It's the B-52's.
They're not prisoners of their hairdo's.
Their hairdo's are prisoners of them.
Oooh... That's really scary!

Well, even though this fool has this rediculous opinion, that does not change the meanings and intents of the author, J.R.R. Tolkien in his Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Excellent fantasy fiction, some of the best literature written. Don't let this guy ruin it for us! He is just an actor.

No, no, no. Tolkien specifically rejected allegory.

Did you not read the part of my post saying that the Lord of the Rings was not based on World War 2? I was making a sarcastic response to person who suggested that the victorious allies actions during and after the war were not good.

"It's quite obvious that Bush wants Iraq because Ariel Sharon told him to do it, and so Bush can enrich himself and cronies by dividing the spoils among his oil buddies."

I have often enough heard that American Mid-East policy has been created by a Zionist conspiracy but I wonder if this is some sort of mis-direction. What if, rather than Zionists manipulating U.S. foreign policy, it's actually the U.S. that is manipulating Israeli internal and external policy by means of surrogates (such as Sharon)?

In any event, I applaud your opposition to George and Dick's Excellent Adventure. Iraq had not been our enemy until George I decided that it was in our national interest to intrude in the Iraq-Kuwait War. All of Saddam's subsequent (alleged) involvement in anti-U.S. terrorism can be viewed as a response to what he perceives as our reversal of policy towards him, and the subsequent war and blockade. Saddam was, essentially, blind-sided by a friend.

The war party at FR have become as noxious and shrill as the Democrats who were supporting the U.S. attack on Serbia during the Clinton administration. It just goes to show that it really isn't the principle of the thing; it's whether the people in charge have an "R" or "D" after their names. I have no doubt at all that if George II were ever caught in flagrante de licto with an intern, the same people who called (justifiably) for the impeachment and conviction of Clinton would now (for the good of the nation, of course) insist that we "move on." The hypocrisy is palpable.

Oh, and another thing . . .
When James Woods came out against the Clintons, I didn't hear a peep about "Yeah, well what does he know? He's only an actor!" Now, this Viggo fella speaks up and there are calls to boycott the Tolkien film. I am surprised that the title of the thread is not "An Insult to Tolkein, America, and God."

The insults are so common from people like you.

Grow some thicker skin. I am just messing with you, and not very much at that. Exactly what kind of person am I? As far as I know, we have never met, here or otherwise.

There is NOTHING vague about the effect on society that a damaged oil economy would cause. I still am not convinced that the war with Iraq really has a whole lot to do with oil other than the regional stability issue in the ME.
