A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....12-04-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

SOME OF FR'S FINEST PROFILE PAGES #7

Many Freepers have taken advantage of the opportunity to create a Profile Page. The results of these creations are often illuminating, humorous, inspirational, artistic or biographic, just to mention a few descriptive words.

Below are some randomly selected FR's Finest Profile Pages. There are, of course, many other FR's Finest Profile Pages worthy of featuring, and we will be featuring them in future editions of Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages. If you have a Profile Page you would like to share, or if you come across a Profile Page that you want to bring to our attention, you know the drill - freepmail Billie, Mama_Bear, Dansangel or myself.

In the meantime, please take a look at Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages #7.

MHGinTN is an activist against abortion on demand. He has a link to letters he has written on abortion issues that are offered for anyone to copy and send to their local newspapers. "Take heart, even liberal papers will often publish a conservative letter, if they think it will incite controversy and up their circulation through controversy." There are 12 of these letters and they make interesting reading.

Tumbleweed_Connection's Profile Page is cited today for all you Elton John fans as it includes many photos of Elton. Some Rush-isms, too: There is only one way to get rid of nuclear weapons - use them.- Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.-There will always be poor people. This is not the fault of the rich.-The only way liberals win national elections is by pretending they're not liberals.- No nation has ever taxed itself into prosperity.

Shermy’s Profile Page tells the story of Marjan, the King of the Kabul Zoo. Marjan was a truly great lion. Marjan killed a soldier in '95 and the soldier's brother threw a grenade at Marjan. Marjan survived but was blinded, Taliban officials stoned him in '96. Still, he survived until 2002. He was and still is a symbol of courage under fire. He is a symbol of strength when all hope is lost. Marjan's story is here, along with photographs.

Flyer has been featured as one of FR's Finest so the biographical information on his Profile Page is well known to many of us. We would like to direct you today to the link to his "Gallery" where he has assembled some of his "amateur" photographs. His work is of professional quality in the eyes of many of the Finest readers as he often posts his photos here and they are very well received. Take a peek. You won't be sorry!

Sabertooth obviously loves "big cats" as borne out by his screen name and logo and carried to his Profile Page. And what a breathtaking Page it is! It is composed of magnificent art work of tigers and big cats, both real and mythological. Some beautiful poetry also. I visit this page often and am always awestruck. You will be too. Thank you, sabertooth, for sharing these wondeful illustrations with us.

Xenalyte likes to attend festivals and faires in Xena-like costumes. An example: From the Texas Renaissance Festival 2001: Xen Shadowhawk, warrior of the She-Wolves, a bit too fond of strong drink, clad in leather and something that looked like brass and armed with quarterstaff and chakram to fight for justice. This season she presented Tatharalla Maquissar Lindariel, elven high marshal to Queen Sylwen Lassethule Vanatari, leader of the Anareldar.

Mixer! So sorry about your accident! Thank God you weren't hurt! Though even if you weren't, it does make for an aggrevating day when you're sidelined by police reports, insurance estimates, and possibly having to rent a car while yours is being repaired. Does not for a fun day make. (yes, I've been there - haven't we all?) :)

Thanks for posting that, mud......and it's so very true. And I'm so glad it is.

If you don't mind my sharing: Last night, I had a long, long talk with my youngest daughter....not about that question, but another comment she made. She has lots on her mind...and I told her, after this long talk, after lots of her tears shed, "let's pray about all of this." And she said, "why, I pray every night for something and He never answers my prayers." Oh, my heart broke.

I had to explain to her that God always answers our prayers...sometimes, though, the answer is 'no,' other times it's, 'you have to wait,' and still others, it's 'yes.'

I told her when He says no, it's because He wants what's best for us.....like when a baby wants to touch the stove, we tell it "no." She said, "I remember when you said that to me." So, I said, when God tells us 'no,' it's for our best and we need to pray and ask for God to take away us wanting that something He doesn't want us to have or do.

Then I said, other times, when God tells us "we have to wait," it's because it's not yet time.....we have to or something else has to be ready that isn't ready yet.

Then I told her, sometimes it seems unfair that other people seem to get all the things we would like to have or want. Then I told her, maybe some of those people aren't going to heaven, and God knowing (but not wanting), this is maybe the most they'll ever have, while they're here on this earth. But God promises those who believe in Him a place in one of God's mansions, where the streets are lined with gold, and all the happiness forever.

She seemed more at peace after we did pray. I am very thankful that Jesus wanted us to be a part of His family.

"God always answers our prayers...sometimes, though, the answer is 'no,' other times it's, 'you have to wait,' and still others, it's 'yes.'"

Great answer...reminds me of that Garth Brooks' song, "Unanswered Prayers"...

"Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers.
Remember when you're talking to the man upstairs...
That just because He doesn't answer doesn't mean He don't care
'Cause some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."

Great story you told to your daughter.

Reminds me of the time I heard someone say, "GOD has promised to supply all of our needs - not our wants."

Sorry I missed you in the spotlight on Monday. Congratulations to another one of FR's Finest...

Yer welcome, my FRiend...I went searchin' fer another Christmas Carol, but found this instead...

"This Blessed Ground!!"
(To be sung to Bruce Springsteen's "My Hometown")

I was six years old, American flag in my hand...
Dockside, watched that ship return my Pa from Viet Nam.
Ma cried, then laughed, 'cuz he'd made it through it...
We cheered as Dad's feet touched ground...
He tousled my hair, said, "Son, take a good look around...
This here's Blessed Ground, and it's your home now,
Do your Country proud, this is your hometown!"

Back in Ninety-Five, Prez'dent's tellin' lies and breakin' rules!
Political fights between The Wrong and The Right...
Networks treat us like we're fools.
As Justice obstructs, Clinton passes the buck,
While sellin' secrets to Commie scum...
Algore grasps their illegal cash, sordid times had come...
To our Country...Won't you see? Liberty, it ain't free!!

Now White House's stonewallin' Congress, showin' no remorse...
Seems like there ain't nobody values Character no more.
Still, we're closin' in to prove Slick's guilt, while Elitists fret...
FReepers say, "These Bums're already TOAST, they just don't know it YET!!"
It's our turn now, let's show 'em how...
To devolve Power, to your hometown.

So, Right, don't delay, seize the day, condemn Bill's Tyranny!
Forcin' out these crooks, it's OUR Destiny!
I'm Thirty-Five, got two kids of my own now...
Last night, set 'em up o'erlookin' the Sea..
I said, "Kids, take a good look around...this here's Blessed Ground!"

Mudboy Slim

Please pardon the vanity; however, with two young children, my wife and I don't get to the movies much anymore and I'm just getting around to watching "Saving Private Ryan." I must say, while I can't stand Spielberg's politics, he does tell one Hell of a story. As coincidence would have it, we rented this movie on Memorial Day weekend, and I was floored by the sacrifice our forefathers made in the fight against Tyranny and Injustice. My hat is off to all those Freepers out there who have fought in defense of our Country and our Liberty, as well as those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. To quote Abraham Lincoln, "I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice on the Altar of Freedom."

And to those of you who are losing heart in our ongoing battle against Tyranny and Injustice in our own Country, please remember the sacrifices our predecessors made...and realize that Bill Clinton is no match for the progeny of our honored forebears.

nicmarlo...Thanks....so am I. The girl that hit me broke her nose and her eye contacts got lost in her eyes. Not a pretty thing. We all helped out to make her as comfortable as we could until the ambulance came.

Bille....I could have been a lot worse off and I thank God that I walked away without a scratch. We have all been there at some point whether it be in a car accident or something else that started the day in a way that we never could imagine.

Thanks to both of you for the concern and kind words.

You are such a good photographer I am sure more than one of those photos will turn out and will delight us here on the Finest Thread. A friend of mine just purchased a Vivatar digital camera at Sam's Club for less than $200. Perhaps your Santa should check it out.
