A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....12-04-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

SOME OF FR'S FINEST PROFILE PAGES #7

Many Freepers have taken advantage of the opportunity to create a Profile Page. The results of these creations are often illuminating, humorous, inspirational, artistic or biographic, just to mention a few descriptive words.

Below are some randomly selected FR's Finest Profile Pages. There are, of course, many other FR's Finest Profile Pages worthy of featuring, and we will be featuring them in future editions of Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages. If you have a Profile Page you would like to share, or if you come across a Profile Page that you want to bring to our attention, you know the drill - freepmail Billie, Mama_Bear, Dansangel or myself.

In the meantime, please take a look at Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages #7.

MHGinTN is an activist against abortion on demand. He has a link to letters he has written on abortion issues that are offered for anyone to copy and send to their local newspapers. "Take heart, even liberal papers will often publish a conservative letter, if they think it will incite controversy and up their circulation through controversy." There are 12 of these letters and they make interesting reading.

Tumbleweed_Connection's Profile Page is cited today for all you Elton John fans as it includes many photos of Elton. Some Rush-isms, too: There is only one way to get rid of nuclear weapons - use them.- Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.-There will always be poor people. This is not the fault of the rich.-The only way liberals win national elections is by pretending they're not liberals.- No nation has ever taxed itself into prosperity.

Shermy’s Profile Page tells the story of Marjan, the King of the Kabul Zoo. Marjan was a truly great lion. Marjan killed a soldier in '95 and the soldier's brother threw a grenade at Marjan. Marjan survived but was blinded, Taliban officials stoned him in '96. Still, he survived until 2002. He was and still is a symbol of courage under fire. He is a symbol of strength when all hope is lost. Marjan's story is here, along with photographs.

Flyer has been featured as one of FR's Finest so the biographical information on his Profile Page is well known to many of us. We would like to direct you today to the link to his "Gallery" where he has assembled some of his "amateur" photographs. His work is of professional quality in the eyes of many of the Finest readers as he often posts his photos here and they are very well received. Take a peek. You won't be sorry!

Sabertooth obviously loves "big cats" as borne out by his screen name and logo and carried to his Profile Page. And what a breathtaking Page it is! It is composed of magnificent art work of tigers and big cats, both real and mythological. Some beautiful poetry also. I visit this page often and am always awestruck. You will be too. Thank you, sabertooth, for sharing these wondeful illustrations with us.

Xenalyte likes to attend festivals and faires in Xena-like costumes. An example: From the Texas Renaissance Festival 2001: Xen Shadowhawk, warrior of the She-Wolves, a bit too fond of strong drink, clad in leather and something that looked like brass and armed with quarterstaff and chakram to fight for justice. This season she presented Tatharalla Maquissar Lindariel, elven high marshal to Queen Sylwen Lassethule Vanatari, leader of the Anareldar.

Your post today was especially touching....the wife, the grandson....a man who died way too young in a war nobody wants to remember. God Bless them all....the seven who lost their lives on this date in four different years.

Goodafternoon finest hostesses AND lodwick! What fun looking profile pages. I have some reading to do when I get home!!! I'm sending my "boss" to a web page design course and her first assignment is to help me do something creative with my homepage!!!

We're heading out of town again tomorrow for 2 days...Mr. D. has his professional annual meeting at a lovely hotel attached to an awesome mall. So it's Christmas shopping time for me. I'm already feeling guilty about the "kids". The suitcase stays hidden until the last minute!!!

Good afternoon, Fine FReepers ALL! A cold winter day puts me in the mood for Christmas music (thanks, F'stix, Aquamarine!), hot cider or chocolate, warm sox, warm fire, and thinking about Christmas.

Aeronaut, swheats, SheLion, got your pets for the Christmas thread, thank you!

Speaking of the pets.....I had an email with attachment of "Joe", a yellow tabby sitting on a counter by the cooktop.....but I don't know WHO'S cat it is??!!! I don't recognize the email name, and the text that was included as an attachment was garbled, and my word processor cannot unscramble it.

WILL JOE'S "MOM" OR "DAD" PLEASE COME FORWARD??

"A cold winter day puts me in the mood for Christmas music..."

"Here Was a Man!!"
(To be spoken--Johnny Cash-like--over a lonely keyboard version of "Joy to the World")

"Here was a man...a man who was born in a small village, the son of a peasant woman. He grew up in another small village. Until He reached the age of thirty, He worked as a carpenter; then, for three years, He was a travelling minister. But He never travelled more than two hundred miles from where He was born, and where He did go, He usually walked. He never held political office, He never wrote a book, He never bought a home, He never had a family, He never went to college, and He never set foot inside a big city, yet...here was a man.

"Here was a man...though He never did one of those things that you usually associate with greatness, He had no credentials but Himself. He had nothing to do with this World, except through the Divine Purpose that brought Him to this World.

"While He was still a young man, the Tide of Popular Opinion turned against Him. Most of His FRiends ran away...one of them denied Him, one of them betrayed Him and turned Him over to his Enemies. Then, He went through the mockery of a Trial and was nailed to a Roman Cross between two thieves. And even while He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had in this World, and that was His robe, His Purple Robe. When He was dead, He was taken down from the cross and laid in a borrowed grave, provided by a compassionate FRiend.

"More than Nineteen Centuries have come and gone, and today He's the Centerpiece of the Human Race, Our Leader, and the Column to Human Destiny. And I think I'm well within the mark when I say that All of the Armies that Ever Marched, All of the Navies that Ever Sailed, All of the Legislative Bodies that Ever Sat, and All of the Kings that Ever Reigned...All of Them Put Together have not affected the Life of Man on this Earth so Powerfully as that One Solitary Life...

"Here was a man."

My six-year-old daughter and I were driving along yesterday, listening to our new Christmas CD we had just picked up from Staples Office Supply, when this "song" came on and we both stopped chatting and listened intently. I explained--halfway through--that Mr. Cash was talking about Jesus. Then, after the song was over, JessieLee looked up at me and said, "Daddy, why didn't Jesus have a family?" Temporarily shocked by her natural incisiveness, I mumbled a silly answer about not meeting the right mommy, but the question has been on my mind ever since. So, Jessica, here's the answer Daddy meant to say, "Jesus never had a family because All of Us are His Family, All of Us are His Brothers and Sisters, All of Us are His Children!!"

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan or not...Happy Holidays to Each and Every One of You Wonderful FReepers...You have become MY extended family!!

Thank you for the posting ... there is no greater honor than to be recognized in some way by and among those whom one holds in high regard. I hold Freepers in the highest regard and of course our fearless leader, Jim. Thank you for all you do, and thank you for your efforts on behalf of the little ones. We are a force to be reckoned with, as Lazamataz is fond of saying. Freep ON!

Thanks Mudboy, that was very nice.

(Jesus did have a family in the sense of a mother and father and his brother James, of course. God did not place him alone on the Earth.)
