My Marine is Defending Us - A Must Read

Before my son became a Marine, I never thought much about who was defending me. Now, when I read of the war on terrorism or the coming conflict in Iraq, it cuts to my heart. When I see a picture of a member of our military who has been killed, I read his or her name very carefully. Sometimes I cry.

I wonder if she votes differently now. While Republicans do their best to have the US provide its military with the best in training, technology and equipment, Democrats when in power got the military on food stamps, refused to send tank support in Mogadishu, and tried to prevent the counting of military absentee ballots in Florida. Shouldn't we be unified at least in the defense of our country?

feel shame because it took my son's joining the Marine Corps to make me take notice of who is defending me. I feel hope because perhaps my son is part of a future ''greatest generation.'' As the storm clouds of war gather, at least I know that I can look the men and women in uniform in the eye. My son is one of them. He is the best I have to offer.

I hate to tell him, but the storm clouds are not just gathering, it's raining now. The storm looks to be intensifying.

I thank this man's son for his service to our country. For myself, I'm rather disappointed that neither of my offspring chose to enter the military, and I have only daughters. One is a federal government employee and a lawyer, the other will be a teacher starting next fall. The younger one is corresponding with a Georgia kid (22 years old, but hey, I'm old as dirt) in the Army deployed somewhere about two time zones east of GMT. From the pictures he's sent, I suspect Kuwait, but could be Qatar. She sent him (and his buddies of course) a batch of cookies for Christmas.

I was privileged to have my son fly home for Thanksgiving. When I waved good-bye, I wondered, "Will we have another Thanksgiving together?"

Whatever happens, I'm so proud of him and his decision to answer duty's call. He is the best of the best and he is my heart.

He is very proud to be serving in the United States Army. And I feel now that all those kids serving are my kids and I love them so.

My son,an Army soldier,is defending us in Camp New York in kuwait,about ten miles from the Iraq border.He called us on Thanksgiving day to tell us he loved us and that he will be back,no stutter in his voice.We must hold each and everyone of our soldiers in the deepest reverance for what they are about to incure,for it is them that let us sleep in peace at night.

As a father I read this with interest. My oldest son is a staff sgt in the Marine Corps my youngest is a PFC in the Corps. There is not a day that I do not think about their choice to enter the Corps. All four of my brothers were in the armed services from Korea through Viet Nam. I did two tours, one of my brothers did four. I do not know how my mother lived through it. I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about what the future holds for my sons. I sleep poorly most nights. I am very proud of them but worried to nervous exhaustion. Sorry to ramble just had to vent for a moment.

Thanks to your son and all who are defending our coutry today from top to the lowest "most loved" soldier. Our country WILL BEAT this enemy, no matter how spread out and hidden they seem to be!!! God bless our President and his staff and the ones who are on "the LINE" for us!!

Every generation has to give to keep this Republic to keep it going. Other people envy us, and they try our bravery, and our resolve. We must answer the call with our lives, and the lives of generations.

Your Marine will do just fine. He will make you proud, and he will stand for me and all Americans. He will stand in harm's way to protect and defend a 200+year old idea that all men are created equal, and that all men deserve to be free. It is an idea that comes from God Almighty, and it was given to man. He will stand and deliver for God, home and Country.

Hug him tight when he gets home, and tell him how proud you are of him.

While visiting relatives over Thanksgiving we had the honor of spending time at Camp Pendleton. What a blessing Marines are!
