You are incredible. I was going to go through the trouble to find and show you the body of regulations and legal cases on fire departments and entry into burning buildings, but since I'm obviously a "commie", "fascist" and whatever toothless epithet you freaks can spit out these days, I'm not going to waste my time.

but have any of you actually been in a house fire? I have, when you're losing everything you own, the last thing you are is "in your right mind."

I've been in two. With the first--and larger--house fire, I was babysitting for a co-worker who worked a night shift and a fire started in the basement (rags spontaneously caught on fire & I woke when I heard a loud bang). I called the fire department, then set about rescuing their three children, all under five. Although the back door was the closest exit, it was hot to the touch & smoke was coming out from underneath the door, so I didn't open it. I crawled the length of the house with two kids on my back (the one & two year old) & one cradled under me (the five-year old--I made him crawl as I crawled. We made it out just as the firefighters were coming in the front vestibule & they grabbed us all to check us out. I ended up in the hospital for two days with smoke inhalation (lots of coughing up black crap, lots of puking up black crap), and because I was about six weeks away from the birth of our daughter, they wanted to make sure I didn't go into premature labor (I didn't). I got the most important things out of that house--her babies and myself--and I stayed in my right mind long enough to get us out of the fire.

The house (it was an big old duplex in Milwaukee) was trashed. There were holes cut in the floor & walls to get at the fire and everything in the house was either smoke or water damaged. I believe her husband's suit wasn't damaged badly because it was in a zipped bag, but it still had a faint odor of smoke, but that's the only thing I can remember being salvagable except some kid's clothing that had to be washed repeatedly to get out the smell and black/grey streaks and stains. They did get their kitchen stuff out, but furniture, beds, anything that had any material that'd absorb the smell or stains was gone or just too charred to use.

The second fire I was in was a lot smaller, just a small fire in the basement from the son of a tenant who was "fooling around." They contained that one in the basement proper and we did have some smoke damage, but it didn't come close to what my friend had. The first thing I did was call in the fire. The next thing I did was get the hell outta there.

What jerks. This a fire fighter, not a FBI raiding party. When's the last time a fire fighter has maliciously and intentionally violated the constitutional rights of citizens? It is posts from people like these guys that paint conservatives as Idaho white-supremist separatists.

Unbelieveable - firefighters are dedicated to saving people's lives, yet one moron wants to make a constitutional issue out of it. I'm not a fire chief, but if I was, I imagine the first thing I'd want to do is minimize the risk to human life. Instead, this yahoo wants to get all snippy.

Wanna bet if they left the guy in there to burn, these same people would be decrying the lazy, incompetent fire department for not doing more? Or the family would probably file a multi-million dollar suit against the department?

They'd be the first ones to blame government ineptitude, affirmative action, feminism, Hillary! and secular humanism for the failure of this department to drag the guy out.

The people on this thread who just immediately assume this guy was some nutcase are jumping to conclusions.

Is this your daddy or some other relative we're talking about? Why are you so sensitive about him?

BTW, if some dude picks up a gun and tells the firechief he has no right to eject him from his burning property, he IS a nutcase. I don't think anyone has a problem with his legally owned gun collection--at least I don't.

And BTW, I'm sure there is a law allowing rescue workers and law enforcement the right to remove you from your own home under certain conditions.

I would follow the recommendations of the NRA with regard to storing ammo and firearms. And that would not be just leaving either laying about indiscriminately.

This is Wisconsin law, but I'm sure New Jersey has similar laws.  The penalty for a Class I felony is three years six months or a $10,000 fine or both.

941.12       pdf icon
941.12 Interfering with fire fighting.
941.12(1)       pdf icon
(1) Whoever intentionally interferes with the proper functioning of a fire alarm system or the lawful efforts of fire fighters to extinguish a fire is guilty of a Class I felony.

941.12 - ANNOT.       pdf icon
NOTE:  Sub. (1) is shown as amended eff. 2-1-03 by 2001 Wis. Act 109. Prior to 2-1-03 it reads:

941.12 - ANNOT.       pdf icon
       (1) Whoever intentionally interferes with the proper functioning of  a fire alarm system or the lawful efforts of fire fighters to extinguish a fire is guilty of a Class E felony.

 939.50(3)(i)       pdf icon
(i)  For a Class I felony, a fine not to exceed $10,000 or imprisonment not to exceed 3 years and 6 months, or both.

I was just pointing out that on FR, the definition of conservatism mutates frequently, depending on the argument presented.

You're defining BushBot.

There is - I found it - but since DC is the way he is, I'll just let him persist in his belief. That way, if he ever has a fire, he might stay in the burning shack out of principle.

Palpatine is a liber-in-conservative clothing sent here to disrupt things. Do a search and read some of his posts.

I've long advocated that such people should be tracked. I used to post warnings to new posters about some of them.

They seem to be growing in number again...

I'm just imagining one of those "Top O' The World, Ma" scenes, with fire licking around his body....kinda like Mrs. Danvers at the end of Hitchcock's "Rebecca," only with a lot more screaming.

While a legal gun owner is no concern of mine, pointing a weapon at a fireman is a concern. Firemen are the least of anyone's worries and are the true public servants of them all.
