This is my translation from Ha'aretz Hebrew edition:
Weapon experts and intelligence sources claimed today that it was secret defence systems installed on the Arkia airliner, not luck, that saved the passengers.
The Boeing managed to escape from two heat seeking missiles after it took off Mombasa airfield.
"Israel work on plans to defend civilian ariliners from terror attacks since the 70s", told today Igal Eyal from the Hebrew University and a former intelligence agent. "the Mombasa incident looks like a successful implementation of amti-missile technology"

He was just taking off. He would have had no opportunity to evade except to pop flares and there was no report of that.
I wonder what the heck they are talking about?

No Anti-Missile technology involved here...
At first glance: The dimwitted Terrorists were too close for their Missiles to aquire the heat source [if they were indeed heat seeking] after they launched.
More Arab incompetence/Grace of God keeps Israelis safe.

Today, on the recurring post, Ya gotta see this: Operation Enduring Freedom, are pictures of the launchers. Are these grenade launchers, or heat seeking missile launchers ? I'm not so sure any defense mechanism was responsible for the misses. Sounds more like psyops.

10-4 on dimwitted and inadequate preparation. No training with the weapons IMO. However, they may be better prepared the next time (there will be another try.)

"At first glance: The dimwitted Terrorists were too close for their Missiles to aquire the heat source [if they were indeed heat seeking] after they launched." This is almost certainly the case. What is NOT in the news reports is also what's missing after we see shots of Saddam firing his guns into the air :
Where Does This Stuff Come DOWN??
Every bullet fired into the air comes down somewhere and hits some THING. These missiles may have missed the aircraft but they HAD to have hit SOMETHING - SOME heat source, maybe, or just whatever was beneath them when their fuel was expended. Where's the report on THAT?

The dimwitted Terrorists were too close for their Missiles to aquire the heat source [if they were indeed heat seeking] after they launched. They got the lock-on growl when they aimed the missle at a big round bright yellow thing and launched.
