I can't believe fans at Cal actually rioting over a victory. I would think winning in Berkeley would be so un-PC.You don't understand the long rivalry (about 100 years) between Cal and Stanford and also Cal hasn't won this one for about 13+ years. I'm sure there were lots of Old Blues in the crowd. I sat in a whole rooting section of them two years ago when I last attended this game. Some of the alums are rowdier than the kids and goad them on. This rivalry has been legend for as long as I remember.

I am an avid college football fan living in the heart of Pac 10 land (although I am a Wolverine fan). I am well aware of the importance of "The Big Game". I also know that with Cal on probation and not bowl eligible this year, this was their "bowl game". I assure you that my comment was made with tongue planted firmly in cheek and was meant as a jab towards the "outcome based" liberal Berkeley left.

You actually took that comment seriously, man you are gullable.

A 14 - 9 victory over U. M. is not something to be proud about. Being a U.M. fan I hardly consider either one of them top 10 status given their mediocre wins this past season. Iowa State showed a heck of a lot more skill than either of them and as far as I'm concerned they deserve to go to the Big Game.
Ohio State is going to have their asses handed to them in a jar when Miami gets thru with them.

Yes. Celebrating a touchown is encouraged with me. If the other team can't take it, then get out of the game.
If we are that thinned skinned of a nation, then we truly are a nation of wimps.
Football is about beating the other team, not being their best friend. Some things are certainly out of the question, but not a celebration of a hard won touchdown. Those things don't come easy.
This isn't to say that the violence shown after the game is to be tolerated at all. It isn't.

I'm a little touchy. Being on the wrong end of 14-9 with the Buckeyes will do that to you.

Both colleges should be suspended from Bowl competition this year.
These are colleges, the teams can thank their school mates for the blown season.

Destruction of property, and rioting have never been allowed under any circumstance. I don't see this as a "big government" issue, but rather a "moron brigade" that could possibly ruin things for everyone.
If the fans/citizens can't police themselves, and continue to destroy other people's property (the bill for the clean-up and repairs will be footed by taxpayers), then let the police police them, and let their "right" to exhibit idiotic behavior be taken from them.
I bet you that not one rioter overturned and torched their own vehicle.

"They (and other teams as well, such as the Steelers, Cowboys, Packers, etc) played with class and character and for the sport in a team environment"
That my friend, is because leadership matters.
I told you, my heroes have always been cowboys.

Then what was the point of that idiotic statement? Pop adulation of thuggery in the name of sports is no stranger to Free Republic. How is the identity of any university student linked to the playing field activities of semi-literate mercenaries? From one who has played the game and not just participated vicariously.

Get out of Ohio while you still can.....

It's the eternal juevemile syndrome. College kids always got a free ride because they were considered "students".
It's a bad excuse . Well all of those commies in the 60's were "students" and they grew up to be Bill and Hillary.
Self govenance will not work without self discipline.
(I've become my father).

I was expecting the fires and overturned goalposts, I wasn't expecting the OSU faithful to pick the sod clean off the field!

It's been about 13 years since Berkeley beat Stanford. But not that long since Berkeley students rioted and tore down goal posts. In 1997 they rioted after they LOST, and tore down the goal posts at STANFORD!!

Maybe you can help me with this card display, from yesterday's Big Game. Does this depict a rainbow over the Golden Gate Bridge, or Gay Pride?
