Or terrorists!
What a terrible event, regardless of who killed this officer. Let's hope they catch the monster and he resists arrest, maybe several floors up in a building with windows that open. The "perp" tries to get away, conveniently climbs out a window and "slips." You get the picture.
I hope it was not a revolver if they can't tell if a shot was fired. Even with a semi-automatic, they should have some idea whether or not he got off a shot. Was the clip full, or was there one missing? Did he usually carry with one chambered?
Does Undersheriff Garton know anything about guns? All he had to do was look for empty brass in a revolver - or missing rounds in a semi!

Not quite. No reported misses, no bystanders hit. It's not as sloppy, as *cowboy* as the usual Memphis gang hit, usually also involving multiple weapons/shooters.
But you're right that there's something of the same smell to it. I don't think it's quite what you suggest, but possibly something quite similar, and worth some continued attention.
Interesting too that this morning's AP story remains the only press report around; you'd think the California media would be all over themselves with pics of the perp in custody.
Unless there's some reason they're very uninterested....
