CNN reporting new Al Qaeda threat against NYC and DC

CNN is reporting a new press release obtyained by Al Jazeera in which new threats are made against Washington DC and New York. Anderson Cooper of CNN was interviewing the AJ reporter who believed the 6 page statement to be credible and certainly from a senior Al Qaeda member, possibly the official Al Qaeda press office. The message threatened attacks unless the US stops supporting Israel.

I think they just got their one good hit in 9/11 when no one was paying attention. I think that's really about the only hit they're going to get. We're pi$$ed now, and they know it. Threats are all they have.
Overseas hits are easier because it's closer to their home, and other nations are just waking up to the threat.

Shouldn't we expect to see Sally Struthers and the Save the Children people protesting against Saddam for not doing more when he had the money?

Fouda quoted the statement as saying: "Stop your support for Israel against the Palestinians, for Russians against the Chechens ... for corrupt leaders in our countries ... (and) leave us alone or expect us in Washington and New York." He added the statement demanded U.S. troops leave the Arabian Peninsula, and justified the killings of American civilians because they pay taxes that finance military operations.

Haven't they already been in New York and DC?

Justify killing people for paying taxes? Mmm, now that's worth contemplation.(sarcasm off) Seems to me it's about time to show these fanatic's who's boss, if for no other reason but to stiffle their arrogant traps.

Bin Laden is not just another pro-Palestine nutcase.

I was quite persuaded by an essay in a recently published compilation of articles in Foreign Affairs. (I don't have it with me because I read it at the library.) I recall a good argument that 9-11 was a message to moderate Islam countries, a show of strength by the fringe, much more than it was an attack on the United States or a show of solidarity with Arafat.

There was a good deal of analysis in this essay of Bin Laden's taped messages in Oct, 2001 in which he made reference to specific Islamic texts decrying the softening of Islamic belief (as seen in the moderate Islamic countries like Turkey).

It was also noted that Al Qaeda does not claim responsibility for their murders, as do Arafat's shills. Bin Laden is a simply a megalomaniac who wants power and prestige in the Islamic world. He could care not one whit about the west. He is out to frighten moderate Islamic countries.

So says the essay, anyway. I do not say I am 100% persuaded, but I found the argument thought provoking.
