Missing Adult, HELP NEEDED (crime in progress?) [SC]

I JUST got off the phone with my neice. It seems my sister (her mother) is missing since yesterday between 3pm and 4:40pm yesterday from the SouthCarolina area.

She headed north as far as we can track, but then nothing. This is TOTALLY uncharacteristic of her.

We need to know if she is on her own willingly making decisions, or if she has been abducted and is in need of help. Is there anybody from that area that can help?

ok, she spoke to hubbie from home via phone about 3 pm yesterday afternoon. She left home at that time saying she was headed for her local walmart near Aynor South Carolina..I don't know the exact town...maybe conroe or something? She never made it to walmart. Survaliance tapes show she never went in there. She withdrew some money from the bank locally. She put gas in her car at the north carolina / south carolina state line (cherry creek). She withdrew a BUNCH of money in Raliegh Durham North Carolina. She spoke to her daughter at 4:30 saying she was going christmas shopping and that she would be late. But she never made it home.

If she had any inclinations to leave home, she never indicated it, and she would NOT be heading NORTH!!

She is 5'7 inches tall, LONG legs, 150 lbs, has very short medium brown hair. lots of freckels, hazel eyes. Driving a Dark Blue BMW 4 door with a mini antennea on the driver's side on the post between the door and the windshield, licence plate # 845HLG

My brother in law is former military police. He made a call to the police and is tracking bank usage which is showing itself to be very abnormal such as numerous attempts to use the various cards but rejects due to wrong pin numbers. He's requested survalance tapes from the banks as well. She was supposed to go to walmart, but walmart survaliance tapes show she never made it there. So, hes compiling stuff to show that something IS very wrong.

Also, she talked to her daughter AFTER one of the cash drafts and said someting weird to her daughter...like I love you...and she NEVER says that to THAT daughter.

Anyway, I didn't want to put all this on the boards...

Yes, we typed several times that they must have been on speed or something to be so insanely busy, and yes also posted it was evident the Burns case followed the perps' patterns. When, if ever, the whole criminal spree is pieced together, there will be several kidnappings / carjackings / thefts / fraud / burglaries / robberies / shootings / murders. Death Penalty several times over for those two monsters. If only.

Another big glaring CLUE is the way the duct tied to tree kidnapped man reported the perps talked. They kept telling him not to be a hero or make any moves or make any noise because they didn't want to hurt him -- implying that somebody had not followed these orders so perps had to hurt him/her/them. What perps said to him raised the hairs on back of necks.

Since I am kinda new to this site, let me ask what might seem to be a silly question...... couldn't we start a "Amber Alert" or "Missing Persons Alert" here on FreeRepublic? Somewhere, where only news & descriptions are placed? No, chatting on it.

Of course, it doesn't replace the original Amber Alerts.

Escapee gives information on Burns

Attorney refuses to say what Basham told police about missing MU student

HUNTINGTON -- A suspect in the disappearance of 19-year-old Marshall University student Samantha Burns released information about her Tuesday to the FBI in Ashland, his attorney said.

L. Branden Basham, 21, authorized Robert Hughes to release the information Tuesday afternoon and requested that it be passed along to a trooper with the West Virginia State Police, Hughes said.

Hughes is Basham’s federally appointed defense attorney.

Hughes said he could not comment on what information Basham gave investigators, but said it was about Burns.

Burns has been missing since Nov. 11.

Investigators in West Virginia would not comment on whether Basham had given them information or on the ongoing investigation.

Basham and Chadrick E. Fulks, 25, escaped Nov. 4 from the Hopkins County (Ky.) Jail and are suspects in a multi-state crime spree. Basham is in the Boyd County Detention Center. Fulks is in custody in South Carolina.

The two also are suspected of abducting Alice Donovan, a S.C. woman missing since Nov. 14, and James Hawkins, a Hanson, Ky., man who was abducted Nov. 5 and tied to a tree near Evansville, Ind. He escaped after nearly 15 hours.

Basham has admitted to kidnapping Donovan, according to an affidavit presented Thursday in U.S. District Court in South Bend, Ind., during Fulks’ initial court appearance. Hughes said Basham’s release of information did not signify his involvement in Burns’ disappearance.

"It is not in any measure to be inferred as implicating him as either a primary or accessory," he said.

Troopers with the West Virginia State Police have interviewed Basham several times, Hughes said. Basham faces first-degree robbery, attempted murder and persistent felony charges in Kentucky. He is accused of having a shootout Nov. 17 with police following a failed carjacking in Ashland.

Hughes said Basham was very specific in his request that the information be passed to an FBI agent in Ashland and then to Trooper Scott Lawrence with the West Virginia State Police.

"(Lawrence) has spoken before with Mr. Basham, and I think they built a rapport," Hughes said. "Mr. Basham liked that particular trooper and trusted him."

Hughes said he could not confirm whether Lawrence had received the information, but said he would be surprised if he hadn’t received it.

Sgt. A.H. Arnold with the Huntington detachment of the West Virginia State Police and Joe Ciccarelli, the FBI’s senior resident agent in Charleston, would not comment about the information during a news conference Tuesday in Huntington.

"There have been some media reports regarding information, and we’re not in the position to comment," Ciccarelli said. "This is an ongoing investigation, and the premature release of information could compromise the prosecution on down the road if that’s where this goes."

Arnold said no new leads in the case had been confirmed.

"Obviously, if we get something concrete we can release, then we will release it," Arnold said. "The recent rumors that have come out about the attorney talking and all that, that’s nothing we can get into now."

Ciccarelli and Arnold said they would not comment on whether Basham and Fulks had even been interviewed or asked about Burns.

Also Tuesday, the FBI released a statement saying that a 16-year-old’s disappearance Nov. 12 from the Huntington Mall at Barboursville was not related to the Burns case. Sara Owens was reported missing after going to a job interview at the mall. She was located Nov. 15 in Richmond, Va.

After an investigation and consultation with other law enforcement agencies, the FBI determined that there were no federal criminal violations in connection with Owens’ disappearance, according to the release. Owens said she accepted a ride home from two men, who took her to Virginia.

She said she hid from the men in a bathroom at a mall in Virginia and borrowed a cell phone to call her father.

Meanwhile, police may have found a link between Basham and Fulks and a missing West Virginia college student.
Police say the student disappeared and her car was found set on fire.
The FBI told us the two women who were traveling with Fulks and Basham said when they met up with the men in West Virginia, Fulks and Basham smelled of gasoline.

Not just a couple of "knuckleheads" on a car-jacking, ATM-card-stealing spree. Cold-blooded killers.

An excellent idea. Could be the FRamber Alert for children and FRalice Alert for adults.

Freepers and their friends from TB2K (who were desperate to help one of their own) have managed to bring the story to light and keep the fires burning. There's no end to what people wanting to help each other can accomplish. It's like TankGurrrl said "we the people" can make a difference. The proof of that is right here.

Hopefully, I doubt there would be much need for an individual category solely for missing FReepers. However, I think it's a great idea to have an Emergency category, for things like prayers and updates on FReepers who have medical emergencies, disasters (like the Texas FReepers affected by flooding and tornadoes), and of course, missing persons. It would have a more personal note than "Breaking News" or "Activism." Just my two cents' worth. I think you may be onto something here....

God, this has gotten so long, I had trouble getting the latest scoop. Praise the Lord that the escapees have been caught!!!

Now..... Dear Heavenly Father, we know that mere men cannot see or do the impossible; Only You can. We know that You know all things, all the time. So we ask right now, Father, that you would dispatch your angles to lead those searching for Alice and Samantha to where they are. I have an idea. This would be especially useful if like in Alice's case we have the description of car and the license plate #.
Many larger truck driving companies have a GPS system inside every truck they have along with an onboard messaging system to the driver. At any time, a dispatcher can locate a particular truck and what area it is in, or by area see which of their trucks is near it. They can then send the driver a message which could be then passed on by CB to other "independant" truckers without the system. These are large companies they might be interestred in the good PR that would be generated AND a tax break for the "donation" or use of their system.

Burns search moves to Guyandotte River

HUNTINGTON, WV, Nov. 27 - The search for missing Marshall University student Samantha Burns has moved to the Guyandotte River in Huntington.

Investigators from the FBI, The West Virginia State Police began searching an area near the mouth of the Ohio River around 9 am Wednesday morning.
The search, on both land and water, includes at least 3 boats and several cadaver dogs.
The search is based on possible information provided by jail escapee Branden Basham.
Basham was arrested in Ashland, Kentucky on November 17. He was taken into custody after trying to carjack a woman and her daughter, as well as shooting at an Ashland Police officer.
Investigators have not provided details about what Basham told them.
West Virginia State Police have said they believe Basham and fellow escapee Chadrick Fulks, a native of West Hamlin, were in the Huntington
area November 11th, the night Burns disappeared.
Up to this point, no concrete links had been found.
Basham and Fulks escaped from jail November Fourth. Basham was caught in Kentucky November 17th and Fulks was caught in Indiana three days later.
The men are also suspects in the abductions of a Kentucky man, who managed to escape, and a South Carolina woman, who is still missing.
This is the first major development since the Wayne County sheriff found Samantha's burned out car in a remote area between Lavalette and Kenova.

Police Search For Missing Student

Crews are searching the Guyandotte River at Huntington, West Virginia for missing Marshall student Samantha Burns.

The search is based on general information provided by jail inmate Branden Basham, who was loose for about two weeks after escaping from the Hopkins County Detention Center in western Kentucky. Authorities wouldn't provide details about what Basham told them.

The search is concentrated in the Huntington area near where the Guyandotte flows into the Ohio River.

State Police have said they believe Basham and fellow escapee Chadrick Fulks were in the Huntington area November Eleventh, the night Burns disappeared.

A 44-year-old South Carolina woman has been missing since she was allegedly kidnapped by the two fugitives.
