Pelosi on The Today Show: "I'm a Conservative Catholic"
The Today Show
Posted on 11/15/2002 4:25:22 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest
Matt Lauer just completed an interview with Nancy Pelosi. After some standard stuff about her "historic" role as the first woman to lead a congressional party, Lauer asked a a pretty probing question:
"When Republicans chose Newt as their leader, Democrats were quick to say they had gone too far right. Why shouldn't the Republicans now say that in choosing you, the Democrats have gone too far left?"
Pelosi answered by stating that while she represented her district in SF (implying that she was being very liberal in representing a very liberal district), she will lead "right down the center" of the Dem caucus.
She then added the following statement: "When people call me a liberal, I call myself a conservative Catholic."
I had heard Pelosi make the same statement in an interview yesterday, so this clearly seems to be a standard part of her defense to the charge that she's too liberal to lead successfully.
I'm not Catholic, but I have to assume that many true "conservative Catholics" will be upset by hearing Pelosi claim that label. It is hard to imagine an authentic conservative Catholic supporting unrestricted abortion, including partial birth abortion, as does Pelosi.
Pelosi failed to vote to ban PBA even when an exception was included for the life of the mother. I think it is thus fair to categorize her as a pro-abortion extremist. Given that record, to go on national TV and call herself a conservative Catholic seems the height of gall and duplicity.
As a sidenote, Pelosi also trotted out what the Dems have apparently decided to make their new theme: "Safety and Soundness," apparently some combination of national security and economic progress. Instant nominee for the "Lamest Political Slogan of the Decade."

Good on you, Doug! I hope Archbishop Levada will do SOMETHING!
My outrage at Pelosi boileth over. It would be like me -- a redheaded Irish Catholic going on some national show and saying I was a black Muslim..... Pelosi is such a total liar as are the other Catholics (so-called) who promote aborticide and infanticide again and again and again.

The Holy Spirit hasn't abandoned us in the Catholic Church. This is spiritual warfare, Psycho_Runner, now is the time to pray like you've never prayed before and to beseech God to bring down wickedness from every high place within the Church. I also find it is a most sobering time for me, as I must ask God to expose within me those things which are not of Him and need to be pulled down. The end of Ephesians has a wonderful passage about our need to put on the whole armor of God, and in the evil doing all we can and standing our ground. Now is the time to stand, and with the armor of God to fight spiritually daily and practically wherever we can.

She then added the following statement: "When people call me a liberal, I call myself a conservative Catholic." It means that she is just as bad as Teddy Kennedy

Satan working on weak souls. God will NEVER abandon us if we don't force him out of our lives.....NEVER.
Those ped./homosexual priests have Satan in their hearts.....not Christ....and they do NOT represent the Catholic Church.

Perfect Pictorial Response of the Day Award!
The linkage of the Heaven's Gate/Hale Bopp Comet cult leader to the Dim's Maximum Leaderette is accurate at so many levels. The liberal mind's ability to ignore absolutely antithetical propositions residing in the same cerebrum is, well, mind boggling. Pelosi claiming to be a conservative Catholic and still supporting PBA murders is such a duality.
Further, as my wife and I have noted for years, the forced, strained facial features of the cultic personality are a dead giveaway that the Father-of-All-Lies is very busy indeed behind those eyeballs.
Blessings on Freepers Everywhere.

Pelosi claims to be a consercative Catholic:
Pelosi is a consercative Catholic as Hitler was a passive German!
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Well, actually what she said was "in San Francisco, they consider me a 'conservative Catholic,'" which probably IS an accurate statement.
I heard this replayed on the Sean Hannity show Friday.
Next time, please pay more attention to what is said. Let's not lie or stretch the truth. That's for the Left to do.

She is about as Catholic Conservative as I am a multimillionaire, Fascist-Nazi, living in San Francisco, preying on minorities and destroying capital..etc. etc. etc.

Yeah...and I'm the Easter Bunny. Who wants to be Spiderman? I do! I do! Does Mary Jane come along with being Spiderman? :)

1. It's a distinction without a difference. Pelosi was using a rhetorical trick, alluding to others saying this about her. Clearly she wanted to get the message across that she is indeed a conservative Catholic.
2. If you're unsatisfied with my quote, try this one from USA Today: "Yes, I'm a liberal Democrat, but I'm a conservative Catholic," Pelosi said. "This business of right and left is yesterday." The task, she said, is "about going into the future."
Here's a link to the USA Today article containing the quote:
