A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....11-13-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The Free Republic Forum has approximately 14 "Daily Threads". Today, we are happy to SPOTLIGHT one of them, along with one of their mainstays, Mo1.

The Freeople thread   first appeared in June 2001. It had its genesis when several posters from Lucianne.com decided to "jump ship" and come over to Free Republic. One of the reasons for this mass exodus was the rule at Lucianne.com about not being allowed to post comments to each other.
Tomkat   (with Jim Robinson's okay) posted a thread so that the former L-Dotters could gather and get to know one another better and learn the ins and outs of posting at Free Republic. One thread led to another and eventually the threads became to be known as "You People" because that was how they were addressed at the other site. The thread name eventually became The Freeople thread, short for People who Freep.
Since that time it has evolved to include posters and lurkers from all of Free Republic. The Freeoples discuss politics; post links to stories that are pushing buttons; have heated discussions on issues of the day; have friendly discussions; joke around, etc. Some consider it a home base to come back to after freeping on other threads and topics.
Below are some links to early Freeople threads:

6-21-01    3-24-02    05-02-02

Mo1
Freeper since 6-23-01
Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania

      Mo1   uses her real name (Maureen) as the basis for her screen name.
      In her own words:
      "I come from your typical Irish Catholic family from Philadelphia, I am one of seven children. We have Democrats, Republicans and Independents; we have a teacher, a retired Marine, a lawyer, a nurse, an accountant, a couple of small business owners and even a Soccer Mom in my family, and when we have a family get together, let's just say things can get very interesting when the topic of politics come up."
      "My parents were depression-era babies so I have been told all the stories about those days. My father was in WWII and served in the 69th Infantry Division of the Army. My mother says dad would rarely talk about that time of his life so I am still trying to learn and research his service during the war."
      "My father was diagnosed with colon cancer when I was about three years old and died of it shortly after my 8th birthday, so I do know from experience of watching my mother through the years what it was like to be a single working Mom. It wasn't always easy, we made some mistakes, but we always had each other, worked hard and managed to survive without any help from the government or the Democrats."
      "My mother always taught us to never forget who we were or where we came from - a lesson I always try to remember and use in my daily life. One of the best advices my mother, who is a registered Democrat, gave me.....was to vote for Ronald Reagan. What's that old saying, Mom is always right."
      "I wasn't always heavy into politics because I was happy with the leadership of President Reagan and President Bush, 41 . However, when Clinton and his merry gang of thugs came along I become very alarmed and very vocal in my opinions concerning politics. I have been pretty much called every name in the book, laughed at and mocked for my beliefs. Some have called me very opinionated for which I admit is very true.....LOL.....basically I don't care what my liberal family and friends think of me or of my opinions anymore. What I care about is my God, my country and my family."

"Mo1's beautiful daughters are ages 10, 7 and 2"
      "How do I find time to Freep? Well, to be honest I used to only go online at night after I tucked my girls into bed. My computer was in the basement and it was hard to surf the net and keep an eye on them at the same time during the day. I have very creative little ones that tend to get into all kinds of trouble when I'm not watching them. To solve this problem, I bought a new desk and a new computer and put it in my kitchen. This way I can get everything done without the hubby knowing I was Freeping all day.....hehe."
      "When 9/11 occurred I found myself online more and more, because I wanted to get the truth of what was happening to our country and also to be reassured from other Freepers that we would be OK.....It is amazing and a blessing at how caring, how smart and how funny Freepers are, especially when things look bleak. Freepers always come through and bring light to the truth on what is really going on no matter what the topic may be. I have learned so many things that I never knew from reading everyone's posts."

      "I am a Republican, and a Bushbot. I am proud of it and I make no apologizes for it. One of the threads I enjoy at FR is The Dose, Rintense is an angel for doing this and I love reading the posts from everyone there."
      "I haven't always agreed with some things President Bush has done, but I do believe he is a good man, with a good heart, that loves his country and everyone in it. Since he become President and all the events that have occurred since then, I believe President Bush has shown this country what real leadership and honor for the White House is after the eight long year nightmare of the Clintons. I think Ronald Reagan, who was, is and always will be a great President, would be very proud of the work President Bush is doing. I thank God every day for bringing this man into our lives, because if Al Gore was President, I would surely be an alcoholic by now."

"The Christmas Eve Cake"

      Perhaps you have heard about this cake. It has been talked about and retold on many threads other than the Freeoples. Here is a link to the Famous Freeoples Christmas Eve Cake   and here is a recap in Mo1's words:
      "As for the Cake story.....well Christine found this recipe for a cake with a pecan frosting.....she was telling everyone how good it was on the Freeople thread so then Grannie9 asked for it..... and then she started going on about how good it was also. Since I don't/can't bake I didn't bother asking for it .. But then Catpuppy asked for it and made the cake for a surprise to his wife.....and he bragged about how good it was."
      "So I figure if he could make it .. so could I."
      "WRONG.....it was without a doubt the saddest thing I have EVER made. Martha Stewart I am not.....I am more like Erma Bombeck.....but I think even Erma would have done a better job on this cake then me.....LOL."
      "I tried making this cake three times.....the first time it wouldn't fit into the three pans like it called for and it was REALLLY thick.....but I put it in the oven and it baked and it baked and it baked and NOTHING happened.....it would not rise.....so I instant messaged Grannie9.....that is when I figured out I forgot to put the milk in.....so on to batch #2.....I mixed all the stuff up and this time it fit into 3 pans.....WOW.....I figured I'm on a roll."
      "WRONG.....it baked and it baked and it baked.....NOTHING.....it would not rise.....so again I IM Grannie9.....this time I find out there is a diferrence between regular flour and SELF RISING Flour.....GO FIGURE .. LOL."
      "So off to the store I go.....and buy the stuff I need and then start on batch #3.....everything is going good.....it baked and it was rising.....BUT I had to put the kiddies to bed and my youngest was in a heck of a mood and kept trying to climb up on the stove.....but the cake was not all the way done.....so I figured I would just turn the oven off and let it finish baking that way while I tucked the girls into bed."
      "WRONG.....it baked just a little too long.....So I figure.....no problem I'll just cover it with frosting....."
      "WRONG.....there wasn't enough to cover that mess I made.....plus I had to cover half with the pecans and the other half plain frosting because the girls don't like pecans."
      "Well.....let's just say it was NOT pretty.....LOL."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lodwick Says:
"I'm not sure what I can add about Mo.....She's a stay-at-home mom of three who does all sorts of home improvement projects, such as staining their new deck, at midnight..... She must be great with kids, because the VI's or Village Idiots or neighborhood children always seem to be over at her house to play. There have been some hilarious stories about them."
"If I had to name a "home" thread it would be the FReeople one, when there is no fundraiser going on."
"She's got a digital camera that has documented the famous Mo1 cake - a first time recipe attempt that had everyone howling last Christmas eve."
"As I've seen from the Fundraisers, she must be able to exist on three or four hours of rest each night....this last fundraiser she was our most valuable thread bomber and cheerleader."
"She loves this country, FR, and all things conservative. She's cheerful to a fault and I'm guessing is the life of the party wherever she goes. Her hair is "tuned up" every three weeks. Spelling and proof-reading are not her strong suits."
"She is the kind of mother and wife who have always been what is good about this country. In fact, those moms are the very foundation on which this country was built and continues to stand strong."
Can you bake a pie?
no?
Neither can I!
Depends on what you mean by bake .. from scratch?? .. NOPE
But there is this lovely pie crust thingy that Pilsbury makes and you can buy that stuff for the filling and presto .. you have pie
But I don't really do that either .. I personally like to do my part in keeping the economy going and head to the Bakery
Christmas is about the only time I make this particular cake - it's also the only time I do other desserts that are too time-consuming and too rich to eat often, but something that we've always gone all-out for. You know - the good china, chargers, crystal, real napkins, dress-for-dinner, etc. LOL! Here's the cake - sometimes I've made two during the holidays - one for Open House, one for Christmas Dinner Dessert....
Mo1, CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING THE "FINEST OF THE fINEST"!
I had an opportunity to get to know you when you ran as "go between" for the D.C. Freep of the anti-peace scum. Your commentary was pointed and humorous and it was a good day.
You don't bake and you paint decks at midnight. And you're Irish. Are you sure we weren't separated at birth?
Your family is beautiful, but then you already knew that. I loved the confession that you put the computer in the kitchen so you can keep up with the necessary chores and still surrepticiously Freep all day and night. I think a lot of us use those kinds of subterfuses to hide our addiction from our husbands. Why invite trouble? I'm so glad to know you better and to put a pretty face to your name. Have a great day!
How you can do all that and still control the “wild wimmin,” is amazing.
Simple .. take all the crayons away so they don't color on the walls ..
It is amazing how sometimes we have back to back profilees from the same part of the country...nothing planned, just happens that way.
