How will Ms. Pelosi do it? Her more moderate supporters in the House say she represent both the left and the right of the Democratic Party.

Excuse me, but didn't the Green Party win second place in her district? If she moves toward the center at all, won't her own constituency be angry? Won't she then be confronted with a primary challenge the next election?

Dick Gephardt had a secure seat, so he could go toward the center as far as he wanted. Nancy Pelosi has no such leverage in her San Fransisco district.

I'm content for her to lead her party into oblivion, and I believe she'll do just that if she's as liberal as I've heard.

GOP in the house, especially with flame-throwing socialists
like Pelosi representing them.

It makes me more happy to have moved here to Georgia
from the left coast, since we just elected our first
GOP Governor in 130 years, and sent Saxby Chambliss
to the Senate. I only wish the good conservatives
of California could experience someday again the GOP
wave that took over most of the U.S. this past Election
Day.

Pelosi couldn't be a better choice (for the GOP) to show the country the stark divide & difference between the two parties.

I think her pro-tax and gay rights rants will go over very well with mainstream America. As they will respond by electing even more GOP rep's & senators, and W, in two years time.

I still think it's too good to be true.

In typical socialist fashion, Pelosi has declared herself the winner before the election has been held.

Yet when rank and file rats are given a choice between commiting political suicide with Pelosi and voting for a 32 year old Ford, they may just go with Ford.

Come next Thursday Pelosi is going to be backstabbed by her fellow democrats.

She is so obtuse she actually trusts the rats to keep their word in a secret ballot.

You have to remember she is probably the richest woman in Congress. if she has a challenge she will win, hands down.

Actually I am glad that Pelosi has won and is now replacing Gebhardt (txs, babs). Pelosi will galvinize the left, she will oppose Bush at every turn and she will drive the independents to voting booths to support Bush.

I believe that the Dems are more concerned right now about losing their base to the Green Party then beating Republicans

And even America's First Black President and recent ARK Black Hall of Fame Inductee couldn't get their main base, black voters , to turn out

After watching a speech from Rep Ford...and thinking he could really rally a lot of Democrats and independents....and be a common leader of the house....I was relieved when Nancy's name came up. Now, I am totally relieved. Nancy Pelosi has likely sewn up this enitre thing, and she is probably one of the 5 Democrats in the house, that they should not have chosen. Most southerners are not going to see eye-to-eye with her. Her speeches are attack-attack-attack. I can her with Sam Donaldson, having to explain in-depth why she is anti-this or anti-that.

They could pick someone like Ford who would likely boost the Democrat chances in 2004...but they won't. They are getting Nancy...for probably the next four years as a minimum. Does anyone see Bill Clinton's hands over this entire episode?
