Nancy Pelosi: How Will She Do It?
Various | 10/8/2002 | EarlyBird

Posted on 11/08/2002 6:17:59 PM PST by EarlyBird

How will Ms. Pelosi do it? Her more moderate supporters in the House say she represent both the left and the right of the Democratic Party.

Excuse me, but didn't the Green Party win second place in her district? If she moves toward the center at all, won't her own constituency be angry? Won't she then be confronted with a primary challenge the next election?

Dick Gephardt had a secure seat, so he could go toward the center as far as he wanted. Nancy Pelosi has no such leverage in her San Fransisco district.

Very interesting...

You are so right. That's why I predict a future for the Dems where their vote count does not exceed what the Greens are getting now.

That's the point. If she suddenly moves to the center to represent all of the RAT's, the Greens will overrtake her in her own district.

It will work beautifully...

I don't think so. The rest of the nation has long ago moved beyond the "Battle of the Sexes". At least those in the majority have (the Republicans, that is, he he).

That kind of feminist appeal will have the same urgency as Black appeal will from Al Sharpton.

Is she cut in the mold of former mayor Alioto? That's the question.

Please enlighten me about mayor Alioto. Thx

??? While this is a fun thread, Nancy got 79% of the vote in her district...She can move to the right all she wants and still be safe.

I hope the rest of the country gets to see/hear the new "voice" of the left...I predict a gain of 30 house seats in the next election.

You are SOOOO perceptive. Actually Nixon was the first to gather this "silent majority" that included the South. Watergate smashed everything, so Reagan had to put it back together again. Now Bush is on the scene and we can safely say:

THE SOUTH DONE DID IT AGIN!

I don't think she's quite the woman that Alioto was.

But the point of this thread is that that is her vulnerability as MINORITY LEADER. She cannot represent all of the Demoncrats and still keep her SF seat.

I feel like the Philadelphia Eagles won the Superbowl and the Flyers the Stanley cup in the same year. This just keeps getting better.

In other words, she is so popular in SF because she is so leftist. If she had to go to the right (in order to be minority leader, for example) would she still be so popular in SF?

To all

Please do not underestimate the message and strength of Nancy Pelosi. While many will have their senses shocked by Nancy, and many here will laugh at her, just know that her message will resonate with more than you can imagine.

As a born and bred (C)Kalifornian, I have watched her dangerous brand of politics gain strength.

By the way.. for any one who cares... freep this poll from the Souix Fall newspaper

http://www.argusleader.com/

Should Tom Daschle step down from his Democratic leadership role in the U.S. Senate in light of election losses by Democrats across the country?

The Republican (if you can call him that) that ran against her was washed up gay guy.

I still voted for the guy, but it made me want to vomit.

There's a big political machine here in SF.

Let me get this straight. Lose close race in conservative leaning straights. Replace leadership with left-wing wackos who will alienate anybody to the right of Lenin himself. Oh yeah. That'll work.

Pelosi is the BEST thing to happen to conservatives since
McGovern....

Pelosi.... White Woman worth 60 Million dollars

Pelosi.. . City of San Francisco / Tax payers should pay for
Transexuals to have sex changes..

Pelosi... Left of Left

Democraps made HUGE mistake.. actually money can't buy you love.. but money did buy Pelosi the seat...

She didn't need to spend a dime to win in San Francisco
so she spent the time financing others to get elected with
the their vote as repayment...

Her time has come... and so has ours ...God Bless America..

Yikes, in your #8, if Pelosi wasn't darker skinned, that could be Micheal Jackson.

I can relate. Just east of you, here in Contra Costa no Republican ran aginst the RAT Tauscher. I voted Libertarian (BARF ARAMA).
